Who's on Third?
I have two players on my team that can play 3B & SS. I'm trying to figure out who to start at 3B and who to start at SS to give myself the best defensive team out there. Offensive is not considered, because I will start both of them regardless of position.
Player A Shortstop Range: A Shortstop Fielding Percentage: .983 3rd Base Range: B 3rd Base Fielding Percentage: .940 Player B Shortstop Range: B Shortstop Fielding Percentage .969 3rd Base Range: D 3rd Base Fielding Percentage: .968 ---------------- For the last couple seasons I've played Player A at 3B and Player B at SS. But, am beginning to wonder if fielding percentage would be more beneficial to me than two guys with solid range. Also add to it that Player A should be a tremendous SS, and Player B is above average, IMO. If this was your team, what would you do? Thanks for all your feedback! |

Shortstops are involved in 50% more plays than 3B. Put A at SS.

I would agree, start the A rated player at SS. He's got better range and fielding percentage, plus I'm not a big Range at third base fan, I'd take the fielding percentage.

That's very close. I agree with the last two posts. One nice thing is that it also maximizes your fielding %.

The only nice thing about "A" range at 3B is that it'll cut off more possible doubles hit down the line and turn them into outs whereas if your SS can't get to a ball because of his poor range it's only a single.
But nonetheless I agree that in this case I'd probably put Player A at SS and Player B at 3B. |

my team had very bad defense not so long ago... ended up with no double play at all... they could never turn the 2nd out.
then i moved to As defense, and better %, and it all changed.. i would actually consider trading your 3rd base player and get a real one instead, and keep that A in SS |

By league rules I can't trade that 3rd Baseman, but he has a Good in Hitting and Brilliant in HR.. so I need him.
![]() He plays 1B too, which is where he wouldfit well... BUT, I have a big prospect ready to go next year at 1B... (terrible fielder though) so I'm looking for long term solutions. Thanks for all your input, please feel free to continue this discussion. |

Put the A at SS. I've always considered range to be more important at SS and FA to be more important at 3B. I don't know why.
