Pitch Usage sliders on player strategy page in 27??
Really praying this is finally the game version that allows us to customize pitch usage %. With the advanced stats they've showcased, it seems like this should be a reasonable addition to go along with them. I don't want my great SP getting lit up because I can't tell him not to throw his 25/25 rated curveball!

I've always wondered why they haven't incorporated this to some extent. Calling pitches from the dugout is a thing. Granted, salty vets may shake them off and do as they please sometimes but still give us the option.

yeah: this would not change anything the way the engine currently works. pitch % is chosen after results are made, that's part of what the new advanced stats are doing, trying to give you realistic numbers, but a player could throw their "worst" pitch 100% of the time and it still only matter what the stuff ratings are.
all pitch types do is create other ratings: the individual pitches on their own don't matter.

And this thread eloquently illustrates the disconnect that can creep into OOTP gameplay based on assumptions on how plays are generated. This is why pitch location is not of any importance.
You have a rough seasonal aggregate combining with a sophisticated ratings recipe deciding who gets what slice of that aggregate. And so the strength of OOTP (what it does, really) clearly is in recreating seasons. Has nailed that. The "sandbox" direction... must comply with the engine that recreates seasons. |

The advanced stats have really hammered home that so few people actually understand how the game creates stats. I'm a PT only player (but are hanging around the forums more for a couple reasons) and it's been quite interesting seeing all of this disconnect between people who play the game in very different ways. I'm used to the 100% certainty of ratings, and knowing that the ratings are all that matter. With uncertainty and scouting built in, a lot of the other things begin to matter more since you are trying to figure things out, but there's still a knowledge gap for a lot of people in terms of how results occur. I do like that these discussions are happening because only good things can come of folks actually understanding how the game works.

It is true very many people don't understand how the game works. But it's worse than merely not understanding. Rather than not knowing many are convinced that it works another way. Concerning understanding being a good thing, well, many would be disappointed to learn something they spent a lot of time analyzing and then making game decisions based on the analysis didn't exist at all. |

As far I understand it every at bat is a calculation involving league totals and modifiers, player ratings with park factors and strategy thrown in. This produces results that the graphics attempts to display. Pitch location and type are just visual aids. |
