Sign-And-Trade Transactions

One more thing I would love to see is sign-and-trade transactions. It really sucks trading for a star in the last year of their contract and not knowing, until after you’ve already given up a few good prospects, that their asking price is way too high or that they won’t sign with you at all.

Not sure if this would be a factor, but there are no sign and trades in MLB. Most likely because there is no salary cap. But not a bad idea.

Good point, but as a simulation game we should still have the option to enable it. We have the option to enable draft pick trading even though that is not allowed in the MLB.

I think we should at least be able to see what terms they would be requesting for a contract extension should they be traded to a team we control.

I'd settle for the ability to get some type of text feedback from my assistant gm telling me if an extension would be possible and a ballpark on the years/money required.

Like this a lot. More feedback from AGM would be good. " Just got off the phone with his agent, might be tough to resign"....or something along those lines

The term "sign and trade" is associated with the NBA, and they don't happen in MLB the way it happens in the NBA, so it doesn't get called that. But MLB teams can and do simultaneously trade for a player and sign them to an extension. When Toronto traded Roy Halladay to Philadelphia, the Phillies signed him to a three year extension as part of the deal. They had a 72 hour window to negotiate after the terms of the trade were finalized, and the trade wouldn't have happened if the extension wasn't signed. There's also countless rumors of trades not happening because extensions weren't signed.

The only real way to replicate this in OOTP is make a backup or copy of the game before finalizing the trade that you can go back to if the extension isn't going to work out. It'd be cool if there was a way to at least see what their initial asking price would be.
