FHM 12, Steam Deck Save File

Hello, I am hoping for some help finding my save file on my Steam Deck. I have found where the location is supposed to be but it dose not show a save file folder within the correct location. Yes I have restart, run FHM in both desktop and Steam mode and also toggle on the " show hidden files " button.

Any help? Please and thank you!

When you say that you have found where it is supposed to be, where are you looking for that?

Have you gone into the settings from the main menu and used the 'show customisable data folder' - that should take you to the location of your save data.

I've not tried installing the game on my Steamdeck but might try later just to troubleshoot if one of the above doesn't resolve it.

I have tried that but it only shows a windows style directory that I can follow in the SD path. Its not the same layout out.

What i have done is gone through the same steps as I have with other games like Football Manager 26 and others, in order to transfer data between the PC and SD.

Example is: home/deck/.local/share/steam/steam apps ect.ect.

Okay, I've just installed on my Steam Deck and created a test save, this one was hella complicated but I've managed to find it.

You'll want to access the file system via desktop mode (or if you've got your Steam Deck attached to your PC/mapped as a network drive etc) and go to this file path

"Home > .local > share > Steam > SteamApps > compatdata > 3739670 > pfx > drive_C > users > steamuser > AppData > Local > Out of the Park Developments > Franchise Hockey Manager 12 > saved_games"

And you'll see your saved games in there.

It's annoying because from gaming mode you can't access the "Show Local Files" like you can on the PC client but also from Desktop mode you can't acess that option either, it will only take you to the game's install location in /steamapps which is of no use for this.

Whilst the 'Open Customisable Data' option from the main menu does take you to the correct location, I see what you mean about it not being clear where that is on the Deck because it's spoofing the UI for an old windows style client - not sure if that's specific to FHM or to the Deck really - perhaps something for Sebastian to checkout if he's reading this (and owns a Steam Deck).

Either way, hope that helps and let me know if you've got any issues.

I don´t own a Steam Deck, so it is hard for me to understand the problems.

Thanks tomkmb for checking this out!

Thank you SO MUCH!

I have spent literally hours looking for this bathing, manually going through every folder I could think of.

My mistake was that in the second "local" folder, I kept going to "roaming" instead.

I so appreciate your effort!!!

This also means I can now add logos to my custom teams. Something I have been trying to do on the Deck sense FHM8, if I remember correctly.

I was wondering if maybe this relates to my issue. I believe my save is corrupted because when I go to load it the game just crashes. I found rs_one and rs_two but neither of those seem to work (or I’m still doing something wrong). Could someone help figure out how to get my game to load? Would hate to just give up on the save.

Are you playing on Steam Deck? What exactly did you do with the contents of rs_one and rs_two? Usually at least one of those would be a working snapshot pre-corruption.

Yes on steam deck. I tried renaming rs one and two as the same name as the main save to see if that worked but it didn’t. I tested out creating a new save and that loads so it’s just my main game save that won’t load.

Okay, that's not what you do with the rs directories (I've asked if instructions for this can be placed somewhere in the forum previously).

1) To 'apply' the rs_one/two files you just want to go into that directory,

2) select all it's contents (they will be a load of .dat files (check if any of them say 0kb next to them...if they do, they may also be corrupt, if not proceed with next step)

3) go back a directory so you're in the main directory of your save game (you will see a mixture of other folders in there and also a load of .dat files)

4) paste all in the root of this directory, it will ask you if you want to overwrite/replace your current .dat files and you should select "yes"

Once this has been done, you can start/restart the game and try your save again, if rs_one doesn't work (see step 2 above - beware of the 0kb) then try rs_two.

let me know how you get on.

Thanks for the response. I tried this morning and both rolling saves show as 0kb when pasting the over. When in their original files they show data but moving the over shows 0kb

Are you doing all of this via the Steamdeck interface or do you have your Steam drives mounted as network drives to your PC? (this makes for much easier file system navigation - many tutorials on Youtube for how to do this).

There should be no reason that copying your rs_one .dat files (which show as >0kb) would cause them to suddenly become 0kb that I am aware of.

My advice would be, get the save file off of your SD and put it on your PC, then try and do the replacement so you can see clearly what is happening. Alternatively, upload the save somewhere and I'll try it on my Deck/PC and see what happens.

Yes all of this on the steam deck. Also weird is that now the game doesn’t even show up when I go to load a save. But when I go through the files I can see it there. I am new to steamdeck/pc so I get a little lost as far as transferring files to different places. I don’t technically have a separate PC, just the steamdeck (not sure if that’s makes sense). Would switching to desktop mode make any difference?

All of these things should be done from Desktop mode - that's the only "real way" I can see that you can reliably access the file system - my response to the original poster of this issue has the information on how to get to the directory that you will need to visit to access your save files - go there and try the rs_one/two copy and replace steps that I have mentioned.

It's hard to help/advise further without being able to 1) see screenshots of what you're seeing and 2) see the save myself

Latest update: switched to desktop mode and followed your steps. Went back to gaming mode, launched FHM12, load game, save not there anymore. Just a test save that I made by a different name. I think at this point I’m getting close to putting more time trying to recover the save than actually playing the game.

Yeah, may be worth just starting a new game - it's difficult to troubleshoot without being able to see what you're seeing or without having access to the save myself. The steps to replace all of the ".dat" files with the contents of one of the rs directories is standard procedure that I've done probably 30 times or more in the 4 years I've played the game (when helping others, I've never needed it nyself) and for the majority it fixes it, sometimes there is it corruption that can't be salvaged, perhaps it's one of those times.

Always going to be difficult to troubleshoot on the SteamDeck too because it's not officially supported.

Yep I’ll just start a new save. I appreciate your help though. Any idea what causes corrupt saves? I only had NHL, AHL, ECHL, CHL, and NCAA running on that save so that shouldn’t be it. I also used to logos from the workshop. Or is this just a super random thing
