Big news in Cheapsville. Mr. McScrooge, after 6 seasons, 6 trips to the playoffs, 3 championships, and nearly $16 million dollars pocketed, has decided to sell the team!

WOOOOOO!

To this clown...

There are no words to describe the depths of my disappointment. On the plus side, I've regained control of the player development budget. On the other, I can now no longer control the scouting budget as well as the draft budget.

*sigh*

I may be shopping for a new home.

We'll see how ecstatic he is when I trade a couple of choice prospect to my future team of choice.

:/

I've got a knuckleballer in my high rookie team, the first I've had in my 126 year history.

I am getting older, maybe it's about time for Snepp Jr. Jr. to make his way into a major league front office...like, say, Omaha, who's really in the dumpster and in desperate need of leadership (and knuckleballers).

I try not to hang around one team too long. As soon as I win a championship I move to the team with a high ranked farm system but with a big league team that is one of the worst in the league. I start over and try to build that team into a champion. It keeps things from getting stale to me.

I might add I try to raid the farm system of the team I just left. Probably wrong but I do it anyway.

Sometimes I'll hang around for a long time, sometimes I leave after the first chip, sometimes I "wait" for the job I want to actually open up rather than commish-moding my way into it. I usually target a destitute team, or one that has never had a championship.

The Omaha job is a real disaster. One step down in market size, multiple steps down in fan loyalty, and a current fan interest in the low 40's. And a farm system largely devoid of ranked talent save for a couple guys in the most recent two drafts.

Snepp III has officially been hired, and Snepp Jr. is retiring after 50 years and 4 teams (snepp sr had an incredible 77 years in the game, that's dedication) . His last official act was to trade a low minor leaguer to Omaha for an even lower minor leaguer. Gotta have that knuckleballer.

My knuckleballer has been alternating between stagnation and the DL ever since moving to Omaha.

I don't think he's going to make it.

This is wild but interesting. Can you in commissioner mode give your team any owner you want? Like can you let your team be owned by George Steinbrenner or something? He likes to spend lol

Yeah, you can edit the owners any way you want in commish mode.

I usually don't care if they're cheap, but the meddling types can be intensely aggravating. If I don't feel like dealing with that I'll flip them off meddling to normal, and maybe knock their generosity down a notch to compensate.

Seven rollercoaster years laters, Snepp III has brought Omaha their first title in their 45 year history. Budget was 23rd of 24 in the league, payroll dead last, moneyballer all the way.

Strange season too, one of the oddest collections of players I've assembled. Hit for very high average, a ton of power, never walked, and struck out a ton. Far cry from my typical collection of high walk, decent power, low strikeout players.

And I carried a 3rd catcher so that my backup could DH every game. Starter led the league in average (.350) and slugging (.622), the backup led the league in hits (131) and doubles (34) with a .341 average. Weird.

Pitching staff is usually loaded with control artists, this bunch was tied for the 2nd worst walk rate in the league. Despite that ended up with the best OPS against.

The knuckleballer didn't make it, he retired having never made it above AA.

Omaha is still a dump of a market though. Loyalty even dropped one offseason before coming back the next. Baseline interest still isn't very good (like 56 or something awful). Now I have to decide if I move on, or try to build this market up long term. There are still 3 teams in the league that have never won a title that came in at the same time as Omaha did, so more destitute fans yearning for something to cheer for.

One other oddity from my 7 year adventure, I missed the playoffs twice while finishing first in the division (back to back years to top it off). The split season format is super entertaining, but every now and then it can be exceptionally frustrating.

The Everett Aquasox, only team in the league with a smaller budget than Omaha, fired their GM today, They come fully equipped with a penny-pinching owner and possibly the worst contract in the league at a touch over $2 million per for the next 3 years (that's 22% of the budget, woof).

Looks like my new home, that sucks even worse than Omaha did.

Apparently Snepp the Third doesn't care nearly as much about his reputation around the league as his father and grandfather did.

Immediately nuked 50% of the 40-man roster and has terrorized the waiver wire and the rule 5 all offseason. Nine rule 5 picks were made, and 9 waiver claims to date in the middle of January.

The big contract to the fan favorite outfielder was sold off for nothing in return, another no-no according to family tradition. Eff'in tiktok generation just doesn't play the same way.

I knew I should have taken a job in the other league. I've run into my old man's Omaha squad three straight years in the league series now...

4-1
4-1
4-0

I swear they're averaging something like 57 runs per game against me, give or take a run.

Positive note, I've moved from lowest budget, to 2nd lowest budget. Or rather the other team just moved below me. I haven't really gotten much momentum with the fans, if I don't get off to a good start attendance tanks immediately and doesn't recover fast enough to avoid a budget reduction the following year.

4th time's the charm in the league series?

Omaha 4, Everett NIL

Guess not.

At this point I feel like the Twins vs the Yankees in the playoffs.

So I rage fired my manager at the end of the season, he took an easy playoff team and managed it into missing the playoffs entirely. He decided at the end of spring training that he would no longer accept any input on who should be playing where and when. Fine, you want full authority, you get to take full responsibility.

My AA manager will be much more amenable to my wishes next season.

8 years, 5 playoff trips, not even a single championship appearance as of yet. So much for getting out of Everett in a hurry.

My league is due for another expansion, it's been 52 years since the big merge of 2090 that swallowed the entire 8 team independent league.
