Maintaining Minor League Systems (or not)

Is there anyway for players to import when they enter their first year of Pro baseball without using the "Import and Maintain Complete Minor Leagues" check box? When disabled it seems to bring in people only at their first major league season.

I would like to start a historical season, say 1993, and all the minor leagues import at that time. I want player still to come into the draft when the enter the minors going forward but maintain my own minor league structure without all the affiliates shifts and such.

This methodology is a little convoluted to begin with but once you've set it up properly it is super easy to maintain each year and works a treat for what you're trying to achieve.
