Catholic Protectory Oval (Bronx, New York)

The Catholic Protectory Oval is perhaps one of the smallest venues in baseball history. The unusual dimensions increased offense greatly, and possibly contributed to Chino Smith's incredible 1929 season for the New York Lincoln Giants. It was torn down in 1938 to make room for apartment buildings. I remade an earlier model and played with Sketchup so that the outfielders would remain in the stadium. Here are the actual dimensions:

LF 180
SLF 238
LC 358 (deepest point in park)
CF 292 (the HP-CF axis hit the CF end of the RF-CF bleachers)
RC 286
SRF 256
RF 180

Harpers Field (Atlanta, Georgia)

Harpers Field, located at Booker T Washington High School in Atlanta, was the secondary home of the Atlanta Black Crackers in the 1930s/40s. It was the second field to bear the name, the first being a smaller field used in the 1920s. I took some liberties with the design and put a fence in front of the steep slope in right field which would have acted as a fence anyway. Not a lot of photos exist of the park as the grandstands appear to have been torn down by 1953, but aerial imagery and contextual images from a few old BTWHS yearbooks allowed me to be able to estimate the dimensions that favored left handed sluggers:

Freeport Municipal Stadium (Long Island, New York)

This multipurpose sports complex was briefly the home of the New York Black Yankees in the late 1930s. It also had a 1/5 mile racetrack, rifle range, boxing ring and football field. Its baseball days effectively ended when the track was paved in 1939. I have not found anything in reference to its baseball dimensions, so I had to estimate based on aerial photos and the apparent lack of an outfield fence:

Not sure why, but I don't think I've seen these yet. Great work!

East End Park (Cincinnati, Ohio)

This ballpark was the home of the short lived Cincinnati Porkers/Kelly's Killers of the American Association in 1891. A city owned sports complex is on the site today. Not a lot of photos exist, so I had to improvise and do some detective work to find the original diamond location (the diamond on the site had been moved by the time this aerial photo was taken). From what I could tell, the clubhouse in centerfield existed when Kelly's Killers played here, but the swimming pool in front of it that is seen in this photo circa 1901 did not. I also added a steamboat from that time period on the river. Dimensions are approximate.

Cramton Bowl (Montgomery, AL)

The Cramton Bowl in Montgomery was home to several teams including the Montgomery Gray Sox of the Negro Leagues and several minor league teams including the Montgomery Rebels, Lions, and Bombers. It also served as a spring training site for the Philadelphia Athletics. It survives today as a football stadium and is the current site of the Salute to Veterans Bowl game. The diamond was shoehorned into the inside of a track and had unusually short dimensions to left field according to the book Green Cathedrals:

Great job on these! Whenever I've considered doing something like the Crampton Bowl I've always decided to find something easier to model, so kudos for taking on these crazy parks!

Thanks! I deleted and restarted this one from scratch a couple of times. Hills/sunken fields are hard.

Bluegrass Athletic Park (Lexington, KY)

Also known as Bluegrass Field, this one is close to home as I live in Kentucky and commute close to this site. The semipro Lexington Hustlers were an experiment in reverse as they were a Negro League team that accepted a white player, an infielder named Bobby Flynn. His son Doug was an infielder for the Reds and Mets in the 1970s. The team played at Bluegrass Athletic Park off of Newtown Pike until the team folded sometime in the 1950s. In addition to hosting the Hustlers, it served as a neutral site for several Negro League games. In 1954 it was renamed League Park and served as the home of the Class C Lexington Colts of the Mountain States League. While the field is gone today, a nearby street leading to a youth field is named John Scoop Brown Way, after the Hustlers' first baseman and manager. Not a lot of info is easily found about the park, so dimensions were approximated from an aerial photo:

RF 310

I have Dexter Park made but it is incredibly laggy when I try to play with it. **EDIT: I got it to work. See below.

Dexter Park (Queens, NY)

Dexter Park was the home of the independent Brooklyn Bushwicks from 1911-1955. The Bushwicks regularly employed future, current, and former major leaguers and rarely left home, taking on anyone who would travel to them including Negro League teams. It also served as an occasional home field for Negro League teams, including the Brooklyn Royal Giants, New York Black Yankees, and New York Cubans. This rendition is a combination of its heyday in the 1930s and its final days as a Vanderbilt Cup short racetrack in the early 1950s. I recreated a version of the iconic ad for the optometrist mentioned in the book Green Cathedrals. Dexter Park was torn down in 1957 but most the surrounding neighborhood remains today.

World War Memorial Stadium (2025) (Greensboro, NC)

Commonly known now as War Memorial Stadium, this is one of the oldest ballparks still in regular use in the United States. Originally built as a race track and football stadium, it was reconfigured for baseball in the 1930s. This version is as it appears today as the home of the North Carolina A&T University Aggies. The school took over ownership of the park in recent years and has plans to renovate it. I plan on creating more versions of this park from its earlier years as a minor league venue.

Wyatt Field (Berea, KY)

This ballpark, the home of the Division III Berea College Mountaineers in Kentucky, has a personal connection as I attended many games as a student there. With only a couple of sets of bleachers, it is a very intimate place to watch a game. I left it unbranded so you can use it in your smaller leagues as you see fit. I love these smaller ballparks, so if you have any requests you'd like me to tackle, please don't hesitate to ask.

This is the perfect stadium for a cape cod-like summer league. Great work as always.

Selfish request... Muzzy Field in Bristol, CT.

The former home of the AA Bristol Red Sox, Muzzy Field was built in 1914 and played host to baseball greats including Babe Ruth, Warren Spahn, Casey Stengel (plus the Red Sox who helped play a role in the 1975 & 1986 world series teams) & even hosted Vince Lombardi in a football game.

The field is still used for collegiate summer leagues, as well as your standard high school, American Legion, and local men's league teams.
