Does historical replay mode leave room for chance?

Good Evening Gents

I am getting ready to start a historical league. I am planning to start in 1901 and change to a different team each year and just play through it. I see when starting up 5 modes (Drive for the pennant, default mode, replay mode, career mode, and random debut). I want to play through it with real rosters moves, contract, etc. So I can tell by the breakdown replay mode is my best option. I am just curious does that leave any room for chance or will the same teams and same results happen every season? I would like a little room for some shocking results

It's all a matter of degrees, really.

First and foremost, none of these identically replicate the historical. After the initial lineups and starters are set as per the historical, hitters and pitchers are used differently.

That said, the application of historical lineups aims to mirror historical events, results, and statistical outcomes as closely as possible.

One step back from that is to apply historical transactions, but NOT historical lineups. Again, that is one degree further removed with player movements following the IRL but lineups and player usage game-derived.

From your OP, this sounds like the option for you.

If I start with the setting I suggest above can I then go in and shut off the lineups and rotation from being 100% accurate ? And if so how would I do that

You can turn on/off the historical transactions and lineups at any point in the sim. It is found here:

Upper left. When you turn on historical transactions the other grayed-out toggles turn on. This game I took a screenshot of is a default game.

For what it worth but to give you an idea... 1901 to 1929 in my sim with real transaction / lineup.

Edit because I forgot... I use a wild card system in that sim, so there is a league championship before the World Series.
