FHM12 Update 12.2.31 Now Available

An update for for FHM12, version 12.2.31, has just been released.

To apply the update:

-If you are playing the FastSpring version, just download the setup file and install it over your current installation. There is no need to uninstall or unlicense your current copy! However, you should quit the game before installing it, of course.
-If you are playing the Steam version, the game will auto-update if you have that option active. If you don't see the update in your Steam update queue, you may need to exit and restart your Steam client.

This update is probably a little heavier on the bug fixes vs. new content than previous December updates, but there were a few complex issues that needed addressing. We've still added a number of new things, like the long-requested improvement to the 2D mode popups and the option to start standard games with an NHL redraft. There are also a couple of larger projects we're continuing to work on for the mid-winter content update that'll come after this one.

Your existing savegames will be compatible with the updated game, but some issues that are data-dependent may require a new game before you see them.

Changes:

-2D mode popups have had some changes made and information, specifically: on a penalty the current PP/SH% are shown; on a fighting major, both players are now shown rather than just onel after a fight the winner is shown (or a message stating that there was no clear winner); and more information on goals: extensions of goal and points streaks, mutiple-goal games (and this system is expandable, so more will be coming in future updates)
-added initial draft (for NHL only) to standard-mode games (i.e., you can redraft the NHL at the beginning of a new standard game, rather than needing to create a custom game to do that) - option is on the "Set Up Your Manager" popup during initial setup, labeled "Ini Draft")
-added "Is on Watchlist" and "Is on Shortlist" (of the user's team) to the player search filter
-RFA compensation salary ranges are now editable on July 1
-fixed problem that was causing waiver claims by human players to fail in some cases
-AI teams will no longer trade draft picks that they've already traded
-adjusted trade valuation of players with bad contracts to prevent their trade value from being reduced by an excessive amount if the disparity between player quality and pay was very large; this has improved trading performance by the AI, but we still may need to look at other financial factors (e.g. remaining length of contract) that affect trade value of players
-fixed likely cause of extreme slowness of 2D engine display on some Macs
-fixed issue that was preventing proper display of full highlights in 2D mode
-playable league rosters are updated (as of December 15)
-2024-25 awards history is added
-made additional adjustmets to 2D mode to fix the imbalance of shots coming from centres vs. from wingers
-fixed issues with some U20 national teams using players from other countries
-fixed a crash caused by a problem with the USports playoff timing
-fixed issue that could cause an unrecoverable dropoff of the quality of Russian and Belarusian generated players during and just after the seasons where those nations are suspended from international play
-2002 Olympics now begins after the qualification round to prevent conflicts with the NHL schedule
-in commissioner mode, the option to move a player to a generic team is no longer cut off
-the last few league names are no longer cut off on the Leagues of the World popup

5 Minute later update, we've made it to 0.3, my internet is working perfectly so I am confused

Nice! I did some tests with both historical and modern games over multiple seasons with 2D mode. The imbalance of shots from centres seems a little bit better. But something that I wondered about is if the ratio between goals and assists are a bit weird. Just to make an example:
Connor McDavid is not a goal scorer. Last season irl he had 26 goals and 74 assists. In game he had 63 goals and 62 assists. He scors a lot more than he should but I also wonder it 2D mode doesn't generate enough assists per goal. I have tried to change that in settings from 1.72 assists per goal to 1.90 and I could not see any big differences. Have also noticed in many different saves that maybe PP numbers are a bit lower and PK higher than it should be. I don't know if it's just me.

The AI trading stuff seems to be better. There are still big trades but it feels like they actually makes more sense now. I will keep testing more on that but it seems to be better.

Jeff, any idea why it's only showing Oct 30th as the current update for the game on Steam? It apparently downloaded the new update, just doesn't reflect it on the Steam page. Thank you for all the hard work as well!!

2D scoring balance is definitely better, but not there yet from what i've seen. Adam Oates just scored 66 goals as my 2nd line centre and Yzerman my first line C scored 76. However better proportionally then the previous year on the old version. The proportion of goals both dropped from the 52% and 56% to 40% and 45%

Jeff: I'm having a difficult time downloading the FHM 12 updates to my Windows 10 & 11 computers because both of them tell me the download files are unsafe. I had no trouble downloading 12 to both computers.
I would appreciate if you could give me some guidance as to how to more efficiently download the game update files.
BTW, I did not have any trouble downloading update files for FHM 7 through 11 on my windows 10 computer.

Is there a problem with the server? I am having all kinds of trouble trying to download the update. I get about 100 Mbytes in and then the download fails. I've tried it with both Edge and Mozilla and had multiple failures with each.

EDIT - Just saw the previous post. I turned off the security settings with Edge, but the download still failed.

Still not working. All the diagnostics on my home WiFi say my system is working fine and I haven't had any trouble downloading previous updates ???

Click on the three dots next to the trash can and select keep. You'll probably get another message and select keep anyway.

I tried to download the Fastspring PC version. It got about a third of the way through the download when a message appeared saying "Couldn't download - network issue". I tried clearing my cache and even rebooting my computer. Same issue occurs.

For thosde having trouble with the Fastspring download, try it again now, I switched to a slightly different link. OOTP was doing something with a few of their servers yesterday, I think that may be the source of the problem.

I just downloaded on Chrome with no issues for either the Mac or Windows links provided - so hopefully that's sorted it for the others too.
