The Fritsch Postcards And John Parker
A lot of them - maybe a majority - are not from the minors, not even from Spring Training, but from the fall and winter instructional leagues, and lots of the names are really butchered.
Your best research bet in these scenarios is to look at the organizational page for the team depicted and look for a name that might rhyme or match or have the same rhythm of names as :"Jim Ponner" - Bonner? Conner? Donner?(Take a pass on that last one) Or maybe the start and end of the name are correct but the middle isn't and the first has been misheard and he's John Ponner? John Painter? John Palmer? Or...Parker? Like three year Phllly prospect, three year Senator farmhand, who made it to spring training one year (1970) and was even captured by Topps...skinny blond righty John Parker? Thanks, Merkle and Dto.
I don't think "Ponner" has Parker's impressive chin, though. And as noted, here is "Mike Miller" wandering around a similar patch of outfield, only the signage appears more Geneva NY than Sarasota FL, IMO: So I'm thinking upstate more than down South. JMO It could be that "Ponner" and "Miller" are just the same wandering blond and those names are the names of the photogs, I suppose. Last edited by Amazin69; 11-27-2025 at 11:55 AM. |

It definitely seems like that could be the case. I usually rely on the ears and nose for identifying and they both look really similar from a side view like that. I'm not sure if that's just a shadow or if the guy in the second image has longer sideburns than the first one though.

Another similarity I just noticed is in both images the left sleeve is rolled up a bit while the right one isn't. It almost certainly has to be the same person.
Here's a BR link to a Michael Miller who was with the Senators/Rangers farm system in the early 70s but I think he might have been a Native American based on some of the information listed on this page: https://www.baseball-reference.com/r...d=miller007mic

Update for my project. I only need 1 more player. I need Shawn boskie from the 1994 team. He pitched two games. July 23 and July 30th of that year.

1994 Topps Roberto Hernandez
Was thumbing through my 1994 album, and for the first time is busting packs in 1994 noticed this odd emblem on Hernandez' cap - I even checked Creamer's Sports Logos site but cannot come up with any explanation.
Does anyone know the purpose of this cap insignia? I assume it means Chcago American League, but beyond that I'm stumped. |

Future Met Roberto Hernandez is wearing a 1941 Chicago American Giants cap, presumably as part of some Negro Leagues heritage "Turn Back the Clock" promotion. I don't know the date, though.

George Hogan 1914
I found Hogan, who pitched in 4 games for the 1914 Kansas City Packers, in the 3/17/1914 edition of The Kansas City Journal. The photo was printed during Spring Training. I did not previously have Hogan pictured in his Federal League uniform.
There is an additional image of Hogan from the 4/12/1914 edition of The Kansas City Post, but he is wearing a warm-up jacket. Last edited by cinemaodyssey; 12-02-2025 at 08:26 PM. |

Frank Milliken -- 1931 Red Sox Spring Roster
Ordinarily, I would not post the photo of a career minor leaguer on this major league thread, but I'm responding to an old request by UKBaseball for a photo of this player as an aid to identifying players in the 1931 Boston Red Sox spring training photo posted on this thread. Hope this helps.

Tom Gillen 1884 - Missing Player
An image of Tom Gillen has been published along with his biography by Bill Lamb in the SABR Bioproject. The source of the image is not mentioned. Would anyone like to opine as to whether this is a valid image for this missing player?
