For this though, what is the additional issue in-game? I'll check it out if you can let me know more specifically. To see what is in the game go to the Teams.csv in the stats folder and stick a filter on column D. That is the modern franchise ID. Then look to Column C to see what is was in a given year. Keep in mind, the 19th c. is not necessarily historical as the teams don't fold but turn into teams they are unrelated to eventually to make the game smoother to play. I don't think it is any different than it's been in previous years.

Well for example, the St Louis Browns of the 1800s legitimately turn into the Cardinals in real life. On the historical teams file right now they have BAL as their franchise ID, when it should be STL. I'm also looking through those late 1800s teams and there is a St Louis Browns listed in AL and NL for some of those years and that isn't real. I can't figure out who the AL one might refer to. The St Louis Browns were an AA team (could be AL for the first years, makes sense) but then transition to NL around 1892. From then through 1898 they were in the NL at the St Louis Browns, then in 1899 they convert to St Louis Perfectos and then in 1900 they become the St Louis Cardinals. the Teams file right now has their historical franchise as the Orioles and, as an example, if you do a historical franchise far enough back to see some of those old managers (like Comisky or Chris Von der Ahe) it ties them to wrong franchises. If you look at the team history pages it shows the Orioles being that historical franchise. It's just a little messed up. I'm not diving in on the oddity of having teams like the Cleveland Spiders being connected to the Indians/Guardians or the other things, there could be database reasons why that makes sense that I don't understand. But the Browns are definitely tied up wrong right now. It's confusing becasue around the late 1800s into early 1900s there were teams moving all over and names changing. |

Baseball Reference lists Jim Clinton with 2 games and 11 plate appearances for the Brooklyn Atlantics in 1874. OOTP Real Life stats have his first year as 1875 but in the game in 1874.

I have wished for years player-managers are same players in the game instead of 2 different people - I goof and move a player from one team another and forget he was the manager - hard to be in 2 places at once - LOL

Looks more like a real line up database error to me but... I'm in 1906 /1907 and something is wrong with both Tom Hughes.
Tom "Long Jon" Hughes (hughes004tho) goes back and forth between Washington (his real team) and New York (AL) to play the game Salida Tom Hughes (hughes005tho) played with the Highlanders. Salida did the same in 1906 playing games in Washington that wasn't him. Please check if it isn't a constant problem with players sharing the same name because that will become a pain in the ass in the future...

5 Tom Hugheses
Here is a section of a spreadsheet I'm developing on similarly-named players in OOTP, the 5 different Tom (or in one case Tommy) Hughes that have played in the MLB. This spreadsheet in to help differentiate between players with the same/similar names, for example, when you come across a player whose birthdate is around 1900 but he's wearing a Rangers, Twins, or Mets cap. Let me know if you think this would be helpful to you. Also, tell me about any other information you think would be helpful to include.

Thanks! If the mix-up occurs, it's usually when two players of the same name overlap in the same season.

And the game picture choice defaults to the photo labeled "player_name" rather than "player_a_name" or "player_name (2)".
What did you think of the spreadsheet? Would it be helpful? I currently have 82 entries covering 21 different player names. Last edited by pholmer; 11-10-2025 at 03:19 AM. |

The game switched to the Historical Minor League ID as the default file name to load years ago. For example, if the photo for the NeL League founder, Rube Foster, had his photo renamed to "foster002rub" and the Red Sox Rube Foster file was renamed to "foster005geo", they would auto-load fine. They kept the First_Last" naming convention as the third thing for the game to check in the absence of the Minors ID or the second priority, BBR main ID. The First_Last name approach is also necessary for a time for kids in the draft that have no IDs yet.

Indeed... Same situation with Al Shaw (shaw--003alb) and Al Shaw (shaw--001alf) in 1908. 003alb plays 001alf games

Do you think you can fix that for OOTP27? It's probably too late for OOTP26, I suppose it's a bit late for a last patch considering they probably work on next year release...

Over time, I was better at catching these "same name" issues. But I'm not surprised some of them remain outstanding. Not sure I have the desire to sift through every season looking for the (hopefully) few that remain. Plus, it might be time for someone else to take over. I've been a beta team member for 15 years or so. I'm about ready to call it a day.

Negro League Players Labeled as "No Team", Please Help
I've started an integrated league based in 1939, and I deleted the Negro Leagues. Now, the Negro Players are listed as "no team" when I search for them individually (ie: Josh Gibson). How do I get all of those players to come up in a search list so I can move them into MLB free agency?.

With many apologies if this has already been taken care of (I'm still on OOTP25), but I've come across a reeeally nasty bug, if it hasn't been taken care of yet. In the batting, fielding, pitching csv files (and I would imagine everywhere else...except the Master file, which would make it difficult to catch), when an underscore (_) is used, for some reason the game switches it out to "+AF8-", rendering it completely impossible for folks like Miguel (not Mike according to BB-Ref) de la Hoz (dela_mi01 becomes dela+AF8-mi01) to come in with their RL stats. Their stats are still in the csv files, but they can't import because the playerID is borked in the stats csv files.
I first noticed this bug, because the column headings that used the underscore had the issue. I don't know if this is something that came about because I was using the OOTP Database Converter or what, but if it's something that's in the game, it should probably be looked at. Apologies if it's just my silliness, but I thought it was important enough to look over. |
