Catcher CERA
I am trying to understand what a Catcher CERA is influenced by.
I have catchers in the online league I play that are absolute Wizards with 80/80/80 and lead the league consistently in CERA which makes sense. But have others that are barely in the 50/60 range that are Top 5 in the league in CERA and my starter is dead awful with 65/75/55 and 4.43 last year with 4.48 this year. Can someone throw some light at this? Thanks!! |

Have you reviewed the stats and compared to the CERA numbers using the formula? The stat is based around pitcher ERA and the formula is: CERA = (ERA While Catching * 9) / Innings Caught. It should be pretty straight forward, but we'd need to confirm if the game is using the same formula or something different.

CERA is largely based on how good your pitchers are, as opposed to the catchers actual talent, so it's not the best stats indicator for catchers in my opinion.

Thank You, that's very helpful, what stat should I look at to see how good the catcher is doing in his position?
