Protected Players

I imported my save from '11 starting on 7/1 because that's the only way to do it. It's now near the end of July and I cannot advance because I have too many protected players because no one is waiver eligible until the season starts.

There are more players on the protected list than the limit? You should be able to release some of their rights by right-clicking and using Lapse Player Rights if they're not contracted to you. Or if a player is signed, Buyout Rights will release them (or you could also trade the players or their rights.)

Yeah, I just had too many players. I guess I overreacted.
