advice on moifiers

when adjusting defensive modifiers, If I want less errors, do I increase or decrease the modifier? same for range....would increasing the modifier cause more range / better defense?

If I do NOT lock the league total stats, what happens?

I'm having a very hard time tweaking modifiers to get the results i want, and i'm not exactly sure why, so any advice is appreciated!!

I found something on This Page Maybe it applies to defense too.

As a more intuitive alternative, the right column contains modifiers, with a default setting of 1.000 for most values. These modifiers can be used to adjust the statistical output of your league. For example, if you want 10% more home runs, instead of adjusting the home run totals, just change the home runs modifier to 1.100.
