Luis Suarez has literally launched bite attacks (plural!) on opposing players on the pitch. If you really honestly voluntarily get yourself within 30 feet of Luis Suarez, that's on you.

Anyway, Luis Suarez is well known to be not quite well connected in his head. I don't condone the man's actions, but I am not even remotely surprised.

I don't know what the going rate is for these instances of severe "unsportsmanlike conduct" in MLS, because frankly I don't give a hoot about the MLS. But in Europe it would probably be about a 4-match ban.

Other incidents of violent conduct occurred, not even just Suarez. Wouldnt surprise me if that gets tacked on as well

You guys have seen me post this before: Your tolerance of bad behavior is measured by your willingness to punish bad behavior. This guy ain't getting it. Since he can't control himself, it is up to the league to exercise control on him.

The league has no interest to police this with a yearlong ban, because he's a (former) star player. Yeah, he's washed up, but they're all washed up. You think prime Messi would have kicked a ball around against ... Columbus Crew? If you ban those guys for an entire year, you're potentially crippling the gate for every match their team plays.

What's the longest suspension that model citizen Manny Machado ever got for hurling bats at people, and how does it scale to a 4-match ban in a 38 (or 34) game season, though?

With him starting the fight and putting multiple people in headlocks, I imagine it will be a lengthy match ban. I expect multiple players and coaches to get at least one game since it was a pretty large scale on the match fracas.

This was also a Leagues Cup match. I am not 100% sure which organization has authority over this.

I don't think they are going to do it. I don't keep up with soccer. A year's ban is what I would do. I've got no tolerance for it. No one should have to tell someone not to spit on anybody anymore than they should be reminded to wipe their butt after taking a dump.
