WPORBL94 ... Looking for GMs for slow-simming league transitioning to OOTP26!

WPORBL (“We Play OOTP Retro Baseball League”) was created to be as realistic to Major League Baseball as possible based upon a starting season and moving forward from there. Commissioner Brian McNeil runs four WPORBL leagues ... one that started in '55 (that is now in midseason of '56), one that started in '74 (the OG league) which is now in the 1980 season and one in '94 (which is now almost finished with the 1999 playoffs) along with a modern one which began in '23 and is now in the 2025 season. All four leagues are on slow schedules -- WPORBL 55, 74 and 94 all run two game days per sim, seven days a week, while the modern one literally sims one day at a time.

WPORBL 94 is nearly completed with the 1999 postseason ... the World Series begins Sunday, and will end with game seven (if necessary) on Monday August 25, after which we will be upgrading to OOTP 26. Six teams remain open at this time: Chicago Cubs -- 68-84, 6th in the NL Central St. Louis Cardinals -- 78-84, 4th in the NL Central Baltimore Orioles -- 68-94, 4th in the AL East San Diego Padres -- 85-77, 2nd in the NL West Kansas City Royals -- 83-79, 4th in a tough AL Central Oakland A's -- currently in the World Series facing my Montreal Expos The Cubs and Orioles will have top five picks in the draft, or you have your pick of teams which all could be on the verge of something big in the coming seasons with the right GM (you?) at the helm. The key to consider with this league is that the slow nature of our simming is a FEATURE, not a bug. By simming two days at a time (one day at a time during the playoffs) you really get the chance to take control of your team. You can properly execute daily lineups, without worrying that an unexpected injury will detrail a week of games. You can get really active on the trade market, where trade talks don't have to be rushed because of a sim schedule that burns through seasons like driftwood. We emphasize getting to know your team before making moves, with a two-week "no trade" rule for new players. And because we sim slowly, nothing has to be rushed. It's not necessary to export every single sim, so a league like ours can benefit players who might only be able to export a few days a week but who monitor their team for injuries in the meantime. But the key is you really get to know your team, with six months of real time taking place during every season simmed. That's a great way to really dig in to an online league environment! Sound good to you? Feel free to peruse our Stats+ League Page, where you can find our Rules document under "Links" -- get an idea what team you would like to run, and when you're ready to jump in, drop our commissioner an email at brigmc70@gmail.com and he'll fill you in on any further questions you need answered. I'm looking forward to hearing from you guys about helping keep this the most competitive slow-sim league around.

All our other leagues are now full, but the six openings in WPORBL94 remain open ... we expect to be ready to advance to OOTP 26 by early next week at the latest (the World Series is currently tied up 1-1, with game three scheduled for tomorrow!)
