Too many internationally born players?

Hello,

In my save the year is 2032. I view all teams and their players before playing them the first series each season. When doing so I started to get a feeling there were too many internationally born players (?).
Went through all teams 26 man rosters (not the 40-man, nor the injured list).
Out of 780 players in total 326 were born somewhere else than in the U.S or Canada.
It is higher than IRL.
Who am I to say it is something wrong here but just an observation.
Baseball is getting more and more international so maybe this is the correct pattern when entering the future.

One could ask the question if I'm allowed to play this game as an international born player if I question this possible future haha.

Edit...

Just checked the secondary roster for the entire league. Out of 1142 players, 489 are international players.
So for the active roster 41.7 percent and for the secondary roster 42.8 percent are international players.
And Canadian players are baked in to the U.S born players should be said.

Do what you want with that. In comparison for 2025: https://www.mlb.com/press-release/pr...y-born-players
I do not know what 2032 will look like IRL. Have not simmed in to the future if this numbers keeps growing or stays the same or even gets lower.

Have not done anything more than small changes in settings, nothing that influences where players come from.

What is your scouting discovery total set to? 32 or 16?

32, the number I thought was the default amount of players in this version, but I see that 16 are the default.
Have not changed anything so I assume that 32 is what you start a save with.
Maybe 16 would be better but perhaps there is a balance issue when it comes to potential and how often international players reach that rather than the amount of players created.
One can argue 32 is needed when filling up Dominican rookie teams (?)

I always set my international players to the max hoping to raise the odds of getting a good one. I can just cull them out later but I’m not even sure if it works.

For what it's worth I simmed a new save to the end of the 2032 season. This time with scouting discovery set to 16.
The result when looking at the secondary rosters was 37 percent instead of 42.
Don't know what to make of that, no big differences but closer to real life. Can also mean nothing of different reasons.

I stick with 16. I think that used to be the default. You think about it...that's an extra 480 players generated per year. Adds up.

You're always going to have a higher number of foreign players in the entire world vs just the majors bc there's an entire minor league, with up to two teams per franchise, with just foreign players who will probably make the majors at a much lower rate than drafted players.

I think the 16 number was based on a 40 round draft with 50 rounds worth of players created. 16 per team(480 total) + 120 free agents is 600 international players. 50 rounds of Americans(with a few Canadians and Puerto Ricans) is 1500 players. So 2100 players every year, 600 of which are international, that’s 28.5% - the real life number pretty much to the decimal point, depending on what day you count.

With only 30 rounds generated there should only be about 360 international players, which works out to be 8 discoveries per team. Or even lower, since I don’t think the game actually generates 30 rounds worth of new players every year thanks to underclassmen and high school players not signing or going undrafted and recentering the draft the next year. But if you do that, there won’t be enough players to fill out 52 rosters in the DSL. Does the game have a higher percentage of DSL players make it to MiLB/MLB than in real life? You’d probably have to cut the DSL down to 30 teams.

I argue there is a possibility some percentage of international players reach there potential too often / that type of player are valued too high in a general sense. It’s quite self explanatory when seeing the numbers of players getting to the secondary rosters in a way higher numbers than real life.
Have seen discussions on college players not reaching potential (have not followed it closely though) - is college players too low valued and international too high and that creates some kind of imbalance? That’s for the devs to decide.

Edit: Shouldn’t say way too high numbers of players reaching the secondary rosters, I don’t have that data but let’s say the active roster instead. But seems reasonable that the secondary rosters are affected to.

Not sure...it does seem like the DSL scouting discovery players are generally pretty raw and fail to reach potential more than a draftee.

What is the better setting here? More (32) or default (16)?

I did a sim 10 years in to the future with the new beta patch.
Much better results. Hopefully not a coincidence. With default (16).

I've been doing a bunch of testing and this combination of settings:

-One DSL team per organization
-unlimited roster sizes for all rookie leagues
-16 discoveries per team, 60 IAFAs and 5 established international FAs
-Amateur draft generates players for 26 rounds

Seems to keep the percentage of American born MLB players around 70-72%. Adjusting the number of generated draft players was the easiest way to make small changes, at 25 rounds the percentage was dropping into the upper 60s and at 28 rounds it was up towards 75%, whereas fiddling with the international player creation caused more massive swings in either direction. Of course, I'm sure there's also some variance in how players develop and I was simming 20 years per test so I didn't do multiple tests with each setup.
