All that is left to figure out is if it is Illitch who won’t sign off on big trades or if Harris just can’t pull them off. Maybe it’s a combination of both. What a disappointment.

Great start from Jack. Very good to see his outings improving.
Bullpen - ugh

I guess I don't understand how you go and get new bullpen pieces and you don't even use them. they were there in uniform. I saw them on the telecast. It really isn't about the Vest decision for me either. I like bringing your best guy in a high leverage situation. It didn't work out an that happens. However, to go to the guys they did afterwards was a perplexing to me.

Finnegan looked decent last night. We get to see what it looks like dragging the corpse of charlie Morton out to the mound tonight. Good that the offense is back, go tigs!

Speaking of Morton, I saw a quote that made me laugh out loud. I’m paraphrasing here but it was something like the Tigers went shopping at the retirement home and didn’t even get their own grandpa! It hit home because if your intention was to bring in a cheap vet that can eat innings and has playoff experience, why not Verlander? From a marketing angle it would have been brilliant.

That would have been enjoyable.

The early returns on the scraps and nubs added to the pitching staff have been great. There is often a bit of pixie dust sprinkled on pitchers collected at the deadline. I call it the Doug Fiter effect. All that remains to be seen is how long it takes for the dust to be knocked off.

Quote:
If they can bob along close to .500, they will maintain their lead, but this pitching staff needs to figured out soon.

I am fairly certain of two things. The Tigers will win the division and that the organization blew a golden opportunity to make the team better and really go for it.

He has the stuff. All he needs to do is get more innings under his belt and let that confidence grow. You can see his improvements right before your eyes. It’s fun to witness.

Nice comeback. When you are down to 40:games or so every win increases the pressure on the teams chasing you ,

Beautiful game from Flaherty last night. Runs will be at a premium tonight - I hope they can stake Skubal with a few.

It really was. I thought when they left a lead off triple standing at 3rd it would come back and bite them. The chips are once again falling in their favor. Nice to see them stacking these series wins once again.

That's surely the most desolate I've seen Framber Valdez in a while.
