Yes, the ball was low. You can clearly see that on the replay.

https://x.com/TalkinYanks/status/1922508410286731654

Two things:

1) Baseball clearly needs the ABS. Sometimes I don't get what goes on in the MLB. We rush to institute the man on 2B in extra innings but we plod along on this issue. I think they will begin ABS in 2026 but I'm not sure.

2) Boone has to knock off the ranting and raving. For one thing, he looks like a damned fool out there. The umpire blew the call, but it wasn't egregious and there's nothing that can be done about it. What does Boone expect him to do, overturn it? But for another thing, he is in danger of really losing his cool and taking a swing at someone.

There is a case for standing up for your team. I get it. If it were the reverse, you would also criticize the manager. But choose your battles better, Boonie. And control yourself.

Okay, I officially take back what I said about Cody Bellinger. He just took ... a ... very ... long ... time ... to ... get ... going ... this ... ... ... ... ... season.

I fear the Rockies in this three-game series at Coors Field. Ever notice that it's often your team that is victimized by some other squad, previously dismal, suddenly getting hot?

Funny, I have the same apprehensions about the Mets' soon-to-be meetings with them. Three in New York next weekend, then three on the mountaintop the weekend after. Perfect time for the Suckies to go on a 7-2 run.

Surer than stuff. Already 1/3 of the way to getting swept in Colorado.

You know, I jest, but there is some seriousness here. I honestly believe that athletes relax in these situations. More detrimental in basketball, hockey, and football where repeated all-out effort is what wins, but I think it applies to baseball, too.

Ahhh. A return to normalcy, at least for one day.

The Yankees going to Denver should end like the Dutch sailors discovering Mauritius, the home of the dodos...

I'm telling you, the law of averages is against you in the first place. In the second place, I feel like, if you throw out the lopsided game in the middle, than Yankees split a pair of tough games with the Rockies.

By the way, see my "Why the 2025 Colorado Rockies are every bookmaker's nightmare" post in the MLB thread.

Hey, the Mets took two outta three from the Dodgers this weekend.

So we're basically even, right?

What's the water level in South Yonkers with Aaron Judge not in the lineup because of "right elbow discomfort" and Michael Kay openly admitting that "yeah, we've seen since Toronto that he can't throw"?

Just another indication that the Yankees are going nowhere this year. They don't have enough and for another thing, the Blue Jays own them.

But I commend the Yankees for freeing Ryan McMahon from being chained by the neck to the sinking Rockies ship and giving him a new home

Yeah, he's an upgrade all right. Batting .217, McMahon is so much better than their previous regular 3B Oswald Peraza (.152)

Oh, it's a whole host of things, not just the injuries to the starting pitchers. (But please, will they release Marcus Stroman soon?)

They have Judge, but he cannot carry the team by himself. They have two elder statesmen, Goldschmidt and Bellinger, who are having decent seasons but nothing spectacular. The rest of the lineup is below average. Occasional flashes but overall, not very good at all. It says something that Peraza was starting at 3B until they brought in McMahon, yet another mediocre player.

The club has been hurt by defensive lapses. People are talking about Volpe and his 13 errors, yet he's covering for Chisolm's 11. They are third and ninth on the list of most errors so far; Machado leads 14 but the difference with him is that he can hit.

Max Fried must be wondering what he got himself into. He cannot carry the ballclub, either. Carlos Rodon has been okay this season and last, after a horrendous 2023, but that's it for Yankee starters. The rest are either injured or bums.

After the Devin Williams debacle, they have no closer and the bullpen is a parade of even more bums with names like Schlittler, Effross, Beeter, Sandridge, and Hartlieb. Who? According to CBS Sports, the Yankees have used 28 pitchers so far this season (but that includes at least one position player in a mopup role).

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that allowing 10 runs in the final 3 innings is not a good predictor of success.

You couldn't close the door on the Phils for us, huh? Y'all had one job…

The Mets have already shredded 34+ pitchers. The tally is escalating so fast, it's hard to keep up.

But I see that the Yankees have not yet ditched the defensive decrepitude that cost them a ring last season.

Congratulations on your new acquisition to shore up that shaky defense!

Westheim will post his thoughts…once he finishes laughing.

(Note: this may take a while.)

Sorry to hear about Da Judge, though.

Oh come on, I don't wish A Met Evoking Disappointment (or "AMED" for short) Rosario on even my worst enemies.

He received a rather backhanded compliment from CBS Sports:
Quote:
Rosario continues to be allergic to right-handed pitching, walks, and good defense, but he's more interesting than his nomadic career indicates. Indeed, improved bat speed has allowed him to hit the ball harder than usual this season. In turn, he's sporting a would-be career-high isolated slugging. A team seeking some help against left-handed pitching could do worse than giving him a spin.

Every time I am ready to write off Brian Cashman, he comes up with a string of good deals. This trading season has been a plus for the Yankees, particularly in the bullpen which has been shaky all season. They acquired David Bednar and Camilo Doval, both all-star relievers, to replace at least a couple of the no-names that have been or will be demoted now. Of course, part of the problem was Devin Williams whom Cashman brought in to be the closer. One step back, two steps ahead.
