Post Computer Doesnt know how to develope Players but We do??

I read a comment somewhere that said trades that give the computer alot of minor league players doesnt help the computer because they dont know how to develope players.

I am new to this game but HOW do you develope players besides move them up and down in the minor league and MAYBE TEACH them a new position if you are lacking a position.. any thing else we can do to develope players??

Maybe I am missing something

during spring training you can do alot to improve their power, contact hitting, and defense. for pitchers their velocity stuff and endurance can be developed. That and having good coaches are the best way to develop players

I havent really messed with it too much but every time I have tried to improve one thing on a player he seems to get worse at something else.

I don't really see this happen in RL.

If player A really worked hard at hitting for contact his defense usually doesnt get worse. Or does it?

If you have good coaches and minor league staff that helps a player's development.

sometimes it gets worse, and sometimes it doesnt. Either way you cant make someone who is horrible at hitting a .300 hitter without hurting the rest of his game. Its a give and take.

I usually run everyone at 5pts for everything. I figure if I have decent coaches and good prospects that is the best I can hope for.

Musashi, it isn't that the AI teams cannot develop players as much as it's prospects deteriorating before they have a fair chance of development. This occurs when it's minor league system gets overloaded with players - if you have 2 great 1B in A-ball there is a greater chance for negative development for at least one of them (the one that is not getting any playing time). Push that number up to 3 and it's no longer a question of if but when . The human player has a strong advantage just by making sure his own minor league systems are not overcrowded.

To teach a new position in the minors, just set the player to play that position in the minor league lineups. Keep in mind though that converting a C to a SS will be much harder than say, CF to LF.

On a side note, one of the guys who was in the Cubs farm system, Jose Nieves, was a SS and a C. I don't know what happened to him, whether he's with someone else or still with the Cubbies.

You have to forgive me I have only been playing OOTP4 for a week and a half and still learning. I did know how to teach a player a new position but didnt really know you had to set the lineups in the Minors for them to really develope better.

Thank you for the info
