Why are the Minor League logos so inconsistently Outdated?

This might belong in the Logo/Mods section but I feel like it's a bigger discussion. I'm a graphic designer so this might be a personal issue. But looking at the minor leagues in saves, i've noticed a lot of logos that are incorrect or just super old. Which is kind of weird since there's clearly some sort of license deal to run them in the first place, and having to go through mods or personally uploading seems like an unnecessary step since it's a vanilla game.

Some examples I cherry picked, but are not exclusive to:
Frisco Roughriders (rebranded in 2015) but the uniforms are current.
NW Arkansas Naturals (rebranded in 2024)
Kane County Cougars (cap logo from 2014 that doesn't match)
Bowling Green Hot Rods (cap logo from 2015 that doesn't match)
Yolo High Wheelers have the logo scaled incorrectly and it's all squished

Another issue I've seen is teams not having a cap logo
Beloit Sky Carp, Sugar Land Space Cowboys and the OKC Comets come to mind. On the standings page, they might as well not have a logo since it's so small and cluttered at that scale.

I can think of the Syracuse Mets cap logo being super small in comparison to the rest of the teams. Also the Florida State League has black borders around their circular logo.

Like I said, maybe it's me. If there was a reason, i would understand. I just figure this would be the easiest update to do year over year and they selectively update them when teams DO move or rebrand. Independent league teams logos are harder to source at a reasonable size or clarity - but if the licensing is there for MILB I don't understand the inconsistency in updates.

I just wanted to flag the attention to detail because it's something that is not attended to unless absolutely necessary. I would love to help out if needed, and if I didn't enrage the powers that might see this. I enjoy doing graphics for this game, I just wish we had what was most current for a yearly release.

Rhetorical: What is your historical year set to?

you can go look in the data directory (data/ballcaps etc) for the mil teams in question (search helps). How the files are named impacts when they get used by the game... a year in the name will tell you when it should be implemented.

if there's no "2015" ballcap or whatever for the hot rods, the game is missing. it.. if it does exist, your 'historical year' is probably different. Or, is something misspelled? That would screw up the automatic selection of jersey/ballcap/logo files etc.

when you first load a game there's a checkbox to 'check all logox...' or something to that effect... click that if all else fails.

you can also go to the team settings of that mil team and 'update' jersey or logo and it should grab the correct logo/hat/jersey file with given 'historical year'.

there are thousands of teams.. not many look to carefully about the irrelevant lower teams, lol, so you may very well find some things that need to be fixed. if you see missing files or the file is poorly scaled, post in bugs section.

just make sure it's not self-inflicted. accidnetally typing a letter into the nickname for a team will cause generic stuff to be used or if historic years is 1901 it's going to use 1901 stuff.

yeah i've seen that happen playing historical saves. The example I talked about is from the current game on vanilla. Now, I have OOTP going back to 15 on this device but for the Rough Riders for example, I remove the logo and load the logo back manually with the .io file in the OOTP 26 folder and it still gives the outdated logo.

I tried the Charlotte Knights for example since they don't have a true cap logo, just two versions of their primary logo and the small_50 logo was still the primary.

Weirdly enough, the Hot Rods had two cap logos that weren't saved over for each other and the correct logo is now in place.

After you drag the file to your game you’d probably need to refresh it on the Team Settings page or delete the cached old logo in your save file (triggering the game itself to reload it by rechecking the main logo folder and finding a different logo now there).

I think some of this may not have gotten updated in whatever year it changed for whatever reason. Sometimes we also may not have received the correctly changed assets by release, and it may get overlooked to go back and update those the next year.

It's always an incredibly tight schedule from when we get these assets to when the game releases, and the priority there is always just to update the stuff that changed each year if we can possibly do so by release or shortly after.

I asked our art team to take a closer look at this now, so hopefully we can get any outdated stuff updated either for a patch, or worst case, for next year.

it's been to long to remember, but the way the files are named you can correct it, if the file exists... look at where the year shows up in other names and add it.

if you do it for several teams that checkbox when you load can save you doing it by hand as long as it is named properly.

in meantime:

might be able to get logos off team sites. manually add it.

jersey/cap creators may or may not work well.

I'm not uploading anything to replace, i've imported logos a ton and can do that. The examples I gave were fresh out of the box inconsistencies on the files that come with the game

Really appreciate it, I just wanted to flag it from someone that really loves the game but feel like the graphics might hvae had some fall through the gaps. Totally understand the deadlines, and also figured it could be a licensing issue.

If it helps at all, MILB teams usually have their cap logos as vectors to save on their website in the top left of their page. Some AAA teams I know that have incorrect small_50 logos like OKC, Sugar Land, and Charlotte have the cap logo at the top. I build out logo libraries for personal use a lot and could help if needed.

Yeah I imagine all the assets I flagged could be found here, or make them myself as a way to manage my /logos library in the documents folder but wanted to point out that this was how my game came at least

Can we please talk about the complex leagues, lol. Drives me nuts that there's no league logos. I also hate that they use generic uniforms

Maybe they decided to use potential logos instead of current logos.
