Since we don't have a dedicated Brewers thread just allow me to brag for a minute. Milwaukee has swept LA twice in less than two weeks.

PS. Ten straight wins.

PPS. Tied for both the NL central lead and the best record in MLB.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled program...

The BoSox recently had a 10-game winning streak, too.

And again! Sorry for the neglect, Rox Stars!

Co-LOW-rado has gone 4-8 since my previous check-in, a slight improvement to bump the record 24-75 (.262), and are now on track to finish 39-123, which is not nearly as horrific as once feared. They have already surpassed the 1899 Spiders' win total, and even at this rate, a "finishing kick" (possibly helped by "professional courtesy" in the final week) such as the 2003 Tigers and last season's ChiSux managed would be enough to elevate the Rockies (YSWIDT?) above both of those squads, as well as the 1962 Mets.

45-117 is not at all out of reach, IMO. Dream big!!

I am more shocked by two other aspects of this story:

Justin Verlander snaps career-worst 16-game winless streak to record first victory with Giants

First, that he had such a poor streak to break to begin with. He had made 16 starts for San Francisco and was 0-8 in them with an ERA near 5.00.

Second, that this win was the 263rd of his MLB career. At age 42, he won't make 300 but he will have given it a good shot.

I only recently became aware of betting odds — for goodness' sake, they are in one's face all the time if one frequents sports web sites or views sporting events these days — and not that I am interested in betting, but I find some mentionables here.

As far as I can tell, the market believes the Brewers will clobber the Marlins later today and the Rockies will almost certainly fall to the Orioles.

Now, since the protocol is to list the home team on the bottom, plus odds are used instead to indicate that the home team will lose, according to the odds. So the Dodgers will rampage at Fenway and the White Sox will succumb to the Cubs in whatever their ballpark is named now.

As far as the "o" number, that is over and under the total number of runs, I believe? They range from a low of 7.5 in the Mets-Giants contest to an anticipated slugfest of 10 in Yankee Stadium. Do people actually bet on this stuff? How boring.

Speaking of boring, I have succeeded in boring myself, and you in the bargain. End of post.

I'm just delighted that the Cubs are on the road, but there's still a reasonably scheduled Friday game for me to watch.

A’s Kurtz has 4 HR game. First time ever of two four homer games in the same season(Saurez and Kurtz). Also for reference there were no four homer games between 1960 and 2001.

Also the first rookie to do so, ever, and the youngest player to hit four bombs in a game, by three years, according to SNY's broadcast.

I know the ball is inanimate, but he still should be charged w/assault on that 3rd dinger.

A bases laded flare to CF should not result in a force out @ home plate. Somebody should be benched.

Nope. Willie Mays hit four on April 30th, 1961.

https://www.baseball-reference.com/b...96104300.shtml

Cepeda hit one, Hank Aaron hit two that game. Is this a record? Seven homers in one game by future HoF'ers?
