Nostalgia sports finds

I've been thinking of doing this for awhile. When I saw this I had to pull the trigger.

I remember watching that Joe Pisarcik hand off into Czonka's hip! Dad was a Giants fan.

I remembered the play. I remembered Jonestown. I didn't remember them happening the same day.

CBS probably didn't want to take an extended break after all the early games in Week 1 had been preempted for Pope John Paul I's funeral. Can't piss off the NFL audience every week. They probably told Ed Bradley "you get five minutes at halftime; nobody knew who Congressman Ryan was, anyhow".

Jim Jones got his immortality, though. This is where the phrase "drinking the Kool-Aid" comes from.

I've enjoyed the couple I've seen so far. I never knew about the inner turmoil among the Padres that year except for the Eric Show stuff. But that brawl in Hotlanta was etched in my mind. I remember the media blaming solely Pascal Perez for it. And I thought Perez may have initiated things but the Pads took it way too far.

His videos on Bonds and the USFL are fantastic. The Rocker one was something else too. I have a crush on Jeff Pearlman since he started putting these out.

The 1931 Philadelphia A's in color. Surreal seeing names I've seen in the almanac all my life like Jimmy Foxx, Mickey Cochrane, Lefty Grove, Al Simmons & Connie Mack become "alive".

Everyone from the 50s on back sound similar. If I didn't see the video and just heard the audio, I would know it was 50s or prior to the 50s just going by the sound and cadence. Why is that?

Conformity. When you are only around people w/a similar background as yourself, you naturally pick up similar habits & behaviors. Being exposed to a more diverse population, like integration, fosters a variety & mixing of behavior.

I think you're spot on here. I feel stupid for not thinking of that.

July 24, 1925. Dolf Luque and the Reds go to Wrigley; Luque pitches and hits and drives in a run.

The interesting part is that we see that Wrigley not only didn't have ivy yet…it didn't have a wall. The outfield bleachers came down to ground level. I wonder how this affected HR totals?

No one is sitting in those seats either. Would love to know story on that.

I think it was a matter of sightlines. It looks like those bleachers (at Redland/Crosley Field?*) came all the way down to the ground.

Imagine almost sitting on the ground beyond right field. How much could you see of the pitching, catching, and batting from that angle? This is why modern grandstands have a minimum height of several feet in the front.

So probably everybody just moved up a few rows in order to see better.

*I missed the part in A69's post about this being Wrigley Field. Different bleachers, same idea.
