They have to "save his arm." Whatever the hell that means. I guess they prefer he have TJ surgery at 25 instead of 24. I hate today's pitching.

That's the thing. We have seen many a pitcher needing arm and shoulder repair even after being babied. The trouble is, it's not possible to determine how many repairs were avoided because of babying. Today's pitching is here to stay, unfortunately.

Baseball-related, that hyped up duel of Skenes and that Brewers guy with the unprouncable name didn't quite live up to expectations. Skenes got stuffed with four runs in the second, didn't get past four, and took the L, and the other guy was out after five shutout innings because of his strict 6 o'clock bedtime... Neither reached 80 pitches.

Not quite Seaver and Carlton c.1967...
Caleb Hammer. His YT videos are highly entertaining.

He wandered, all right.

The phrase "Gift from the gods" often flits through my mind in these instances. The gift of playing the game of baseball, itself a thing of immense beauty and pleasure, so well as to be rewarded with $182 million over 11 years, and the dumbass cannot keep it in his pants or his hands away from guns.

He hasn't played in almost two years and he hasn't been paid for nearly a year. If he gets any money retroactively, the world really is a stupid place.

As for the mother, I am of two minds. What kind of mother would consent to this? But, on the other hand, I am not dirt poor, starving, and faced with this dirtbag with a bundle of cash in his hand.

You will note that the mother is now serving a 10-year prison sentence whereas Mr. Dirtbag's worst penalty will be suspension and loss of income. Forget what I said earlier; the world is a stupid place for sure.

You could put the above link in the "It's not the JUSTICE system, it is the COURT system" thread.

For context Franco was 21 @ the time. The fact he paid off the mom shows he knew he was legally wrong. So no excuse for him. He knew the line was drawn & it has to be enforced. But I look at this more as immaturity than dirtbag-ish.

I'm a bit speechless that he sorta goes free while the mother goes to the slammer for ten years. How does that add up??

Anyway. I don't see him going back to any MLB team, not even if some clueless team like the White Sox signs him by accident. Doubtful the Rays want him back.

But hey, there's always Japan and Korea!

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte reveals what heckler said about late mother after being brought to tears in Chicago

"Later in the interview, Marte said he believes something needs to be done about fans who are crossing the line with their heckles with increased frequency."

What needs to be done is two-fold:

1. Teach your children about common sense, common courtesy, common decency. Stop promoting and allowing anti-social behavior as not just acceptable but somehow admirable, a sign of coolness and manliness.

2. Come down hard on the goofs in our society. Stand up for what is right. Out them, ostracize them, marginalize them. Don't beat them physically, but punish them in other ways.

Baseball in the Everlasting Light of Fairbanks, Alaska

For more than a century, baseball teams in Fairbanks have played at midnight on the summer solstice, illuminated only by the sun.

In the never-ending lightness of the Alaskan summer, baseball at midnight needs no artificial illumination. That’s good, because the lights towering over Growden Memorial Ballpark in Fairbanks don’t work anyway. They haven’t in more than 20 years — maybe because of a lightning strike, but no one can say for sure.
Actually, the game starts around 10 p.m. and goes through midnight. And while there is still light by the end of the game, it is not as strong, leading to errors.

This year’s Midnight Sun Game featured the Anchorage Glacier Pilots and the Alaska Goldpanners. Did you know that Barry Bonds, Dave Winfield and Jason Giambi once wore the red and gold of the Alaska Goldpanners? Here is my man, Dave. He was a pitcher back in 1971-72.

Let the videos in the article run; they look like static photos but are wide-screen. If they don't start up on their own, try right-clicking them and choosing "Play" or "Loop". Download time is involved, so you may have to wait. The five videos in the intro eventually played, as did three others in the body of the article, but it took a while.

Say, Alaskans look like you and me, and they like baseball! See how great baseball is at bringing people together.

But you can tell these authors are not sportswriters. Hardly a mention of who won the game! It ended at 12:40 a.m. with a Glacier Pilots win, but what was the final score? (Glacier Pilots 7, Goldpanners 2)

Ahem.

1964-1965. Graig Nettles was also on that team, and I believe Seaver's Fresno rival, Dick Selma, as well.

The Mariners winning two out of three games against division rivals Texas Rangers ALL IN EXTRA INNINGS is a huge deal in my opinion. Ok, it's not the Astros or the Yankees, but the ability to win under adversity this time of the season shows that getting our top two starters back(Gilbert and Kirby) and making key minor league promotions like Cole Young and getting reliever Matt Brash back are turning the Mariners from an average team into a top calibur team, and the handling adversity in a winning manner part is incredibly important towards hopefully finally making that postseason run into the World Series(knock on wood, as we are the only team in MLB history not to be in the world series yet).

In a week, you will have three easy games at Yankee Stadium. A couple of 7-0 and 9-0 shutouts, and a 2-1 squeaker for the series sweep.
