Low bids in auction house
Two topics for me:
1) Why do people under bid at prices for which they can only harm others, not make a dime? I mean bidding '6' when the low bid on an IRON card is '7'? 2) Why does the game leave in bids that are no longer possible to make because the card was upgraded?

Those players are creating liquidity, trying to help other players, rather than Q sell into the algo AI.

Invalid bids still left in is really annoying. I do business programming so I know it's different but we'd run a query to cancel those bids in my shop. (If we had a similar situation).

What if?
Three or four guys want to sell that card and the AI only leaves one bid active? The stock market works the same way, if a stock is trading for $35 you can put in a lower bid and if a big block of the stock comes in unexpectedly, you'll get your stock at your bid price.

No? why is this moronic? they're getting the same price as if you quicksold it, so why not see if someone wants it?

And the game is more fun when there are more competitive players!

Because those bidders think they are getting a better deal. They do not understand that you are correct. Check around. There is a lot of evidence for this

When I'm getting rid of live dups, instead of QSing them, I look to see if someone put in a bid. If they did, I'll sell it to them instead of QS. I get the same amount of PP, they get a card.

Yes, it's a competitive game and at the same time you are getting rid of a card you could have quick-sold, you are also making another team spend money out of their PP wallet, leaving them less PP for other cards. Win win.

There are certainly players, maybe many of them, who don't understand how the tax system works. We've seen evidence right on this board.
1. The quick-sell price is always the minimum you will receive for selling a card. 2. Since there is a 10% tax on sales, you will not receive anything extra by selling the card for equal to or less than 110% of the quick-sell price*. 3. Being that it's a competitive game, and understanding the time value of money, it really makes no sense to offer a card for less than 110% of quick-sell. You could have the same amount of PP immediately rather than wait for a buyer to come along. 4. Another issue is whether ineligible bids, like a 26 bid for a live card that's been promoted to Silver or above, will be honored. No, they won't. The 26 bid would be meaningless and should be scrubbed. Last but not least, there are a lot of speculators out there making low-ball bids on cards only to re-list them for substantially more. They are not whales, they are sharks who take advantage of other players' impatience (sometimes mine included). Remember this next time you're tempted to fill a buy order that's less than 110% of quick-sell. You might only be helping one of the sharks pad his or her point total through card arbitrage. They usually make offers above 110% of quick-sell, but not always. *price thresholds at or below which you will only receive the quick-sell price (and nothing more, but also nothing less): Iron card 6 PP Bronze card 28 PP Silver card 111 PP Gold card 1,111 PP Diamond card 4,444 PP Perfect card 22,222 PP |

Ah, but the other player wants that card because it benefits him in some way, through use of the card in league, tournaments, or for mission completion. He wins (or at least he thinks so). You, OTOH, don't win. You receive no additional benefit. It's not win-win at all. It's win-null, unless the other player is making bad choices with how to spend his PP, in which case it's lose-null. In either case, you are the null player who receives no additional benefit.
