Extremely niche historical gripe: George Knight
The first time I ever did a 19th century game was way back in OOTP5, when you had to resort to a bunch of weird workarounds to make it work. One of the best pitchers in the game was a guy I'd never heard of: George Knight. He pitched one game in real life, did reasonably well, won it, zero walks and zero strikeouts, which wasn't that uncommon in 1875.
I didn't worry about it too much at the time. I had bit players set to "make bad" but there were so many other glitchy things about the 19th century back in OOTP5 days that you couldn't focus on one guy like that. Fast forward a couple decades. Every time, George Knight imports with insane, off-the-charts ratings, despite all the improvements the game engine has made. There are a few other 19th century guys who still don't seem to import right, but no one else requires some kind of a fix if you don't want him marauding through your league for no reason. I'm not complaining, exactly: I know it's coming when I do the 1875 import and I know how to adjust him downward. But I am curious about what the engine is doing with him - what is it about George Knight's career stats that makes the engine go crazy? Before you ask, yes, I have (and always have) the setting to make players' ratings bad below a certain threshold. Also, I do notice the game has gotten a lot better at the average player's import in recent versions - there aren't a ton of things that cause problems with the player imports as they exist now. (In the 1870s, at least.) But there's George Knight, just importing as a combination of Cy Young and Walter Johnson each and every time.

As for the A/W not weakening him further... dunno but in George's case, the OOTP db stat line was incorrect in material ways for that era. Will take a new patch with a new db generated to correct this in new games.

Wow, thanks! I'll post others I can find/think of as I come across them. There are fewer and fewer systemic issues with the database - as recently as 4-5 years ago, I always knew I'd need to tinker with the imports of any players who had a year gap between their import year and the rest of their career. That's fixed now, being able to use a multi--year sample for the initial ratings has solved the common issue of imported players having like 50 (terrible) PA in season one, then 500 (great) PA in season two. (The game engine always struggled to catch up properly.)
