125th U.S. Open at Oakmont PA
Huh, between the threat of [domestic stuff] and [foreign conflict], I managed to completely whiff on how this was going on. And, after last year's silliness, we're back to real USGA championship golf…at one of the classic Northeastern courses, where the greens are hard and fast and birdies are scarce.
As the Rolex ad that just played says, "The U.S. Open is Golf's Ultimate Test…you just can't fake out The U.S. Open. We're not trying to embarrass the best golfers in the world, we're trying to identify them." Heck, yeah. Only three men under par, led by Sam Burns at -3, and only two others at even par. Lots and lots and lots of suffering, just how I like it. As an added bonus, nobody I truly despise is in contention. The closest is Brooks Koepka, and it's not really his fault he won that god-awful 2017 joke of an Open at Eden-****ing-Prairie MN…I mean, somebody had to. (Granted, Koepka is a LIV traitor, as is Patrick Reed, but better them than Bryson…) I still can't say I'm in love with the look of Oakmont, since they took all the trees out about a decade ago, but I suppose the barren look help the wind whip harder, and anything that makes the players squirm makes me happy. Fore! [Details of real-world issues redacted, so as not to trigger a modding] Last edited by Amazin69; 06-14-2025 at 10:29 AM. |

Should I get involved with this like I did with the Masters thread? I did have a great time with that . . .

Rory McIlroy just bitterly complained about the US Open course.
In other news, water is wet, and no one cares about Rory McIlroy. |

Did anybody else have an issue with the NBC broadcast (not the USA, just the NBC) looking like crap? Very low res, to the point where the whites were bleeding out and thus the mini-leaderboard in the corner had the names and hole numbers looking like an eye chart when you need stronger glasses.
Wasn't my eyes, wasn't my set (the baseball on FOX was fine), wasn't the actual footage because it looked fine in the Golf Channel replay. This was some sort of transmission issue; I was wondering if it was network-wide, or just those bozos at WIS-10 (Who apparently have been known to scrimp on the signal before; AI found some griping on Reddit about the SNF broadcasts a couple years back.) I swear, if it's that bad again, I'll just wait for the Golf Channel replay and try to dodge spoilers. And maybe take a nap after dinner, since 11 PM-3 AM is a hard ask. |

WOW - just WOW - what an incredible putt. Congrats J.J. Spaun.
Started by making bogey on 5 of his first 6 holes. Who'd a thunk it? |

Well, **** me.
I bailed on the ****ty signal from WIS at 3.15, stayed good all day, got caught up watching some PBS, and only at 11.45 remembered the Golf Channel replay had started at 11. So I hopped over…and they were doing some extended post-tournament wrap-up, and I got spoiled for the result. For Pete and Debbie's sake, don't they know their own schedule? It's not as if the golf ran an hour long, is it? I mean, I guess there could have been a weather delay, but I'm fairly certain they finished before this wrap-up show was supposed to air, whether it started at 10 or even 9. Grrrr. Looks to be a lovely leaderboard, too. Only one man under par, and only by a single shot and he had to birdie the last to reach red figures. Just like Corey Pavin in…1996, was it? Almost a 30-year wait, and these Palmetto Bug-brained hicks screw up the transmission and screw me over. Typical for my life. Are you ****ting me? ETA: Maybe instead of making plans for this mere 4-hour replay, I should have held out for the full 5-hour version, being rerun tomorrow night at 9.00 PM? My bad. Sheesh.
