If you're so bored in your chicken coop on the fifth floor that you have to start and harrass people trying to do *their* job in your non-immediate surroundings, then why don't you stay the **** home and let the regular broadcasters handle the game!? That would be a good suggestion in general. Down with Fox! Down with Crapple! Down with ESPN! And down with every other Channel 72 that fancies itself getting a slice of the MLB cake!! ![]() ![]()

You will notice that they never pull this crap on regular TV team telecasts, be it GKR or Kruk and Kuip or Carp and Frandsen or even the Bronx Barbarians. Because not only do the broadcasters have a certain vested interest in seeing the home team win (a prosperous franchise pays Michael Kay more than, say, Pittsburgh would) but they actually have to work with these guys on a regular basis. Let Gelbs ask Brandon Nimmo about his swing on the post-game, not when he's supposed to be watching the batters bat.
Simply batty. |

Although this wasn't really his fault. Can you give the booth an assist on an error?

Hopefully his next AB, the Angels beaned Clarke for celebrating the catch. After all, we need to respect the game and the Angels feelings.

I'm mocking people who think there are appropriate times & ways to celebrate on the field.

Maybe those that are offended by celebrations will embrace the androids playing baseball in the near future.

All 25 paying fans in attendance go berzerk as Andrew McCutchen wallops a 3-run homer in the bottom of the fifth against the Marlins.

From The Athletic (I had to split the chart into two images):
BAD: IN THEIR OWN WORDS On the Athletics “Because they’re cheap.” “They’re going to be playing in Sacramento.” “I had a buddy who was traded to the A’s as a minor leaguer. … He went to Oakland and said the way they were fed, the places they stayed were just not good.” On the Marlins “Miami has no direction, and all their prospects are 17, so they’re seven years away from doing anything.” “I’ve heard specific things about them getting, like, Subway sandwiches on the road sometimes. It’s little stuff like that where it’s like, we’re in the big leagues. Cheap stuff. It’s a billion-dollar industry. Let’s be a little better than that.” On the Rockies “They’re not trying to win.” “I’ve heard the player development isn’t very good. They’re stuck in the past and don’t do a whole lot for their guys.” “I never understand what they’re doing as an organization. They’ve been bad for a long time.” On the White Sox “It’s just a dumpster fire through and through.” “They lost the most games in history last season. I mean, why would you want to join that team right now?” On the Pirates “The Pirates give players resources, but their owner just has zero interest in winning.” On the Angels “They just don’t know what they’re doing top to bottom. That’s what I’ve heard.” GOOD: IN THEIR OWN WORDS On the Dodgers “You win the World Series, and you go out and do what they did to add to it? That’s what professional sports — not just baseball — is supposed to be.” “The Dodgers take care of players and their families, but they also excel on the player development side.” “The Dodgers stand out. Everyone wants to win. Everyone wants to get paid. You go there, looks like that happens.” On the Yankees “The Yankees and Dodgers are the gold standards for players. Accommodations. Always in on free agents. Home stadium is always packed.” “They take care of their guys. The food there is incredible.” “Everybody who goes to the Yankees absolutely loves it there.” On the Braves “They have a relaxed, old-school feel.” “The Braves do everything just as good as the Yankees. The way they take care of the players, players’ families, the way they treat you like you’re the best in the league.” On the Cubs “Players I know in Chicago, they talk about how well they treat families.” “They are just about keeping traditions alive. They love their history and their legacies and try to continue that.” On the Mets “The best family room in the league, by far, is the Mets. The Cohen family put a bunch of money into that because they know how important it is to take care of family.” On the Guardians “The Guardians make players, especially pitchers, better.” On the Red Sox “Their medical staff is top-notch.”

Wow, that was fast.
Brewers, White Sox swap Aaron Civale and Andrew Vaughn one day after pitcher's trade request It's like something I would do after receiving one of those snide messages in OOTPB. ![]() Well, Civale now goes into the "dumpster fire" as described above. Don't feel sorry for him, though; he's only there for a few months. He's in his walk year and, having been relegated to the bullpen by the Brewers, now will get a chance to show off his talents as a starter again before becoming a free agent. And, as the article says, the Sox may trade him again before the deadline for higher value if he does well.

Thanks to the commentary on the game that I am watching, I am just getting caught up to the latest chapter of the Rafael Devers story. (If somebody mentioned this earlier in the thread, I apologize.)
Recall that Devers, who really is not a good third baseman, was asked to move to DH when the Red Sox acquired Alex Bregman. Initially, he refused and made a public fuss about it. Some deal was made, because he later relented. Well, last month, Triston Casas ruptured his tendon and was pronounced out for the season. The club, in the person of chief baseball officer Craig Breslow, came to Devers and asked him to fill in at first base. Now, you would think that Devers would be anxious to get back on the field if it was so important to him, yes? Uh, no. Devers refused and, incredibly, was angry that Breslow asked him the question at all. In the first place, Devers is not a great player. In the second place, even if he was Babe Ruth, Grover Cleveland Alexander, and Shohei Ohtani combined, I wouldn't want him on my team. Talk about selfish. I wonder what his "teammates" think of him. Devers tells Red Sox he won't play first, upset they asked him to move But you see? That's why I couldn't work in baseball ops. For, I would release that bag of stuff. Whereupon, some other team that cares not for such matters would sign him immediately, acquiesce to his demand to play third base badly, and he would be rewarded with a doubled salary. Moreover, there would be hundreds of Facebook pages demanding my firing, if not my execution, for letting Devers go, no matter how bad he was for the team. Only if I won the World Series that same year would I keep my job for a while.

![]() Ironic subheading: "Rafael Devers still won't play third base for the Giants". Not with Matt Chapman at 3B for the Giants. Even if Chapman goes (or stays) on the IL, according to this.

As neither the Giants nor the Braves could finish off a sweep of the Rockies, the Pile are now at the dizzying heights of a .197 winning percentage, which comes to 32-130 for the full season. Still far below last season's White Sux, but quite clear of the 1899 Spiders at the moment.
If we go back to include that aberrational sweep of the Fish (and the following sweep of Colorado by the Mets), the Purple Mountains' Majesty has only been 5-7 since they were 9-50. If the Rox can keep rolling at their recent .417 pace, they would go 38-53 from hereon in, posting an overall 52-110 mark. Still wretched, but not historically so. |
