OOTP live ratings

What are live ratings based upon? It looks like for pitchers it is projected FIP?

Can't figure out batters. Looking at Harrison Bader in OOTP, his career WAR is 6.4, whereas Baseball Reference has it at 15.3 and Fan Graphs computes it as 14.7. What's going on here.

I'm looking at Ernie Clement this year, who has 1.6 and 1.7 WAR on those sites (very good defense) and is currently 37th place in WAR on Fan Graphs, but he actually dropped 6 points to a 42 Live rating? He's actually projected to achieve 3.2 WAR this season. Is defense not a thing in OOTP live overall ratings?

HALP!

Unfortunately defensive stats are harder to come by, and our stats providers cannot provide some of the more advanced stats. So most player defensive ratings were set pre-season. Clement probably should have come in a bit higher there, but there was still a little uncertainty about how good he actually was defensively.

if you're looking for live updates, it's mostly skills based compared to projections. so like, power is reflected in homer rate, avoid k in k rate, etc. you compare them to the player's baseline projection and if they improve, the skills go up, and then the overall goes up.

May we translate this as "changes in WAR due to defense, as determined by 3rd parties WILL NOT affect live ratings".

Frankly thought you guys were in cahoots with Baseball Reference and FanGraphs.

Thanks for the reply, your video on that was helpful BTW. For the lazy ones of us, wouldn't just looking at FIP projections and offensive WAR fluctuations be a good enough estimate for live update speculation. Except for a few upper tier live cards most of us could care less about them.

Appreciate the kind words! Yeah FIP is generally a good enough for pitchers. I think hitters are a little more nuanced because the components can sometimes be misleading since it’s relative to the projections but again it’s probably good enough to get most of the basic changes.

I'd still like an answer to this. Career WAR in OOTP is often far different (sometimes insanely so) than BRef or FG for many historical and live players. I've used WAR as my primary measurement for player value in PT but more significantly OOTP leagues since 2012 but am having doubts to the true value or meaning of this metric in game.

Tell Me Why I Don't Like Sundays

"The silicon chip inside her head
Got switched to overload
Nobody's gonna go to school today
She's gonna make them stay at home
And daddy doesn't understand it
He always said she was good as gold
And he can see (no reasons)
'Cause there are (no reasons)
What reason do you need to be shown
I don't like Sundays
(Tell me why) I don't like Sundays
(Tell me why) I don't like Sundays
I want to shoot the whole day down"
