Horrendous forum response times

Who else has had trouble getting on the forums today?

It's been beyond atrocious for the entire day.

It takes 20 attempts to load a page - maybe. Had this all of yesterday and this morning again, with two computers, three browsers, with and without restarts and VPN, and the connection keeps timing out.

Can any of the kind Sirs at OOTP please plug the internet back in? Thx.

Its so random. It didn't allow me at all yesterday to open any thread for the longest time (would have to leave the page open and see if it would load, if at all). But at 640am CDT, it opened with no problem.

We fixed up some settings and restarted things, hopefully they will be stable now.

Yes, they were straight arse yesterday. I wrote a nice post, and then it didn't post and I couldn't even get back on the horse to try again. Better luck today, I hope.

It happens about every 3 months and has for what seems like a decade now.

The forum software they use is 15 years out of date, and whoever they use to host seems to be lowest possible bidder.

But it is a common enough problem to where I can remember it.

And those who have been around a very long time, may remember the infamous incident that took down the forums for what seemed like 3-4 days. And then when they came back, about 90 days worth of posts and threads were lost and never recovered.

That was a very long time ago. I am having trouble remembering when exactly. But back when forums were still relevant and before social media and reddit and Discord and other ways to interact with other players of the franchise.

I think forums will always be relevant because they keep a better record of discourse over time than more transitory forms of interaction, but I recognize that not everybody periodically re-reads the Mets thread to suffer through "the best 2 months of Javy Baez's career" and other lowlights.

I think what happens is, it being a proprietary forum ostensibly owned and operated by OOTPD, that they periodically do some sort of maintenance or other big job that either takes up the bandwidth or chokes it down to a trickle while big computer brains are diverted.

If that were the case, then it would be nice if they were to announce it in advance. Still, I keep in mind that this is one pleasure that is gratis for a change, so I take the good with the bad.

Yes, I remember that happening. It was unfortunate to lose posts and not being able to access the site for many days.

Not just you, had issues this morning before heading off to baseball tournament for my son. These forum issues are happening far too often for my liking.

It times out really quickly though. Like, two seconds, bam. I don't even get one of those 500s error codes.
