Like I said, drowning in illogic. You're basically saying they did something wrong before, therefore they should repeat the mistake. I accidently let one fly in the house, therefore I should open all the doors & windows so all the vermin can come in as they please.

Well, this is interesting.

"Manfred ruled that MLB's punishment of banned individuals ends upon their deaths."

"Obviously, a person no longer with us cannot represent a threat to the integrity of the game," Manfred wrote in a letter to attorney Jeffrey M. Lenkov, who petitioned for Rose's removal from the list Jan. 8. "Moreover, it is hard to conceive of a penalty that has more deterrent effect than one that lasts a lifetime with no reprieve. "Therefore, I have concluded that permanent ineligibility ends upon the passing of the disciplined individual, and Mr. Rose will be removed from the permanently ineligible list."

I had a feeling that was coming. The appetite for carrying a list of permanently ineligible, yet long dead, people was less appealing today than it once was.

Very interesting. I can see both sides of the issue here.

So the ban was to protect the integrity of the game while Rose was alive, not punishment for him affecting the integrity of the game. Wow.

I don't care if he makes the HoF in my saves. But I won't have him on my team.

At least the Hall of Fame does not have a antitrust exemption to protect at all costs. Here's hoping at least they maintain their integrity.

A campaign for the pride of Brandons Mills SC, Joseph Jefferson Jackson, then. Unlike Mr. Rose, the Shoeless One was acquitted of any offense in a court of law.

(In all seriousness, Rob Manfred can continue to go **** himself, repeatedly, with the most painful objects he can find. And the Hall had best show some balls and keep striking the All-Time Bet leader from their ballot. MLB doesn't run the Hall, let's recall.)

My initial inclination was to say players who cheat or gamble should not be honored w/those who resisted the urge to profit from breaking the rules. Dead or alive.

But then I remembered this Biblical principle.............

So if God is willing to forget every sin we did before death, who am I to say someone should be continued to be vilified even in the grave?

So I say this is a good decision on MLB's part no matter what the impetus is for the change.

As Enoch Root said in Crytonomicon "God doesn't issue passports." He doesn't run the Hall of Fame either.

Chick Gandil and Eddie Cicotte approached gamblers with the proposal that they would throw the 1919 World Series. They succeeded in recruiting six other players into the scheme and they lost the Series on purpose to the Reds. For that, Chick and Eddie were declared permanently ineligible by Baseball.

Today, Rob Manfred exonerated and reinstated them. Congratulations to the families of Chick and Eddie on their long overdue return to the game.

And let's raise one for Dick Higham, the first player in NL History to hit into a triple play, who became the only umpire ever to be banned for game-fixing! ("Buy all the lumber that you can".)

Vindication, Dick! Sweet justice at last!

Maybe they figured the Rose forgiveness would dominate the news and no one would notice sentences were reduced on the Menendez brothers. It's a plot, I tell ya! LOL.
