Boob Fowler 1923
Joseph Chester "Boob" Fowler colorized with the Cincinnati Reds. Upscaled once by deep nostalgia.ai, twice using Pica.ai, colorized with kolorize.cc and heavily tweaked using GIMP.

Rube Ehrhardt 1924
Quote:
A 1924 image of Rube Ehrhardt with the Brooklyn Robins is attached. Ehrhardt was a right handed pitcher who spent all but his final sixth year, of 1929, with the Robins. He made his debut in 1924 and apart from 1925 was one of the first prominent relief pitchers in history. 1925 was the exception in that 25 of his 36 games were as a starter and he reached double figures in wins for the only time. In both 1926 and 1927 he led the National League in Games Finished. In 1928 his number of appearances fell to 28 and he moved in 1929 to the Cincinnati Reds to finish out his Major League career with 24 games. Last edited by UKBaseballfan; 04-21-2025 at 10:24 AM. |

Henry Oxley 1884
I asked ChatGPT to make a colorized and restored version of Henry Oxley's face and it gave me this.

Howie Shanks 1912
Thank you for the Ehrhardt image.
Attached is a 1924 image of Howie Shanks with the Boston Red Sox. Shanks is known primarily for his 11 years with the Washington Senators. In 1923 he joined the Boston Red Sox and took over as the starting third baseman. In 1924 he was reduced to a back-up role. He finished his career with the 1925 New York Yankees, appearing in 66 games. He joined the Washington Senators in 1912 and became the starting left fielder appearing in 116 games. Through the 1916 season he maintained that starting role until becoming the starting shortstop in 1917. In1918 he did not make a single appearance at short becoming a utilityman with his time shared mainly between left field and second base. He reverted to the starting shortstop in 1919. From 1920 onwards he was known as a third baseman. 1921 was undoubtedly Shanks's most productive season. He led the American League with 18 triples. His total base accumulation was 85 higher than his second best season. He hit over .300 for the only time in his career. He led the League in fielding percentage at third base. He also set career highs in runs batted in and slugging percentage and for the only time in his career attained an OPS+ in excess of 100. Last edited by UKBaseballfan; 04-22-2025 at 06:17 PM. |

That photo appeared to already be heavily processed and the jersey letters were compromised. I did an online search and found that there was better quality and already colorized version of that pose here. Though smaller, I thought the colors looked good so did a 2x enlargement/enhancement with Topaz app. The attached is the result of that. |

Al Yeargin 1922
Quote:
A subpar 1924 image of Al Yeargin is attached, possibly originating from the Spalding guide. A right handed pitcher, he represented the Braves in just 1 game in 1922. B-R lists his only appearance as a complete game but he only pitched 7 innings, does that indicate the game was abandoned for inclement weather or more likely darkness? He only gave up one earned run but the game is recorded as a 3-0 loss to the Giants. The game was played on the tail end of a double hitter on 1st October and was the final game of their season. Another oddity was that he gave up a home run to Mahlon Higbee, Higbee's only career home run, yet Higbee never played in the Major Leagues again. Yeargin returned to the Braves in 1924, his final season, and posted a 1-11 record from 12 starts. He pitched 141 plus innings over 32 appearances including 6 complete games.
