Baseball Expansion!

December 11, 1979

AP-Major League Baseball has announced today that there will be two expansion teams entering the league for the 1980 season. The two cities awarded expansion are Washington, DC and Denver, Colorado.
In order to resolve labor disputes and a potential strike in 1980 or 1981, the owners voted unanimously to opt for an expansion of the league to allow for an equal amount of teams in both the NL and AL.
In order to spread the expansion between leagues, the Milwaukee Brewers will be relocated to the National League and the Washington franchise will go to the AL and the Denver franchise to the NL.
Finally, the league announced there would be an expansion draft where each team would leave two players unprotected on their 40 man roster in January.

I will be taking over the Washington franchise and I will keep informed of league/team/player progress......I will begin with 1980 rosters but import fictional players as time progresses. Does this sound interesting enough to follow? If so, I will continue, let me know

The Washington baseball franchise has announced the team name as ....

The return of the Washington Seanators (yes, I know it is not creative but who ever thought MLB to be a bunch of innovative people ? ha!)

The Washington Senators will begin play at RFK Stadium for the 1980 season and have chosen the 1970 uniform as their opening day uniform.

The Washington General Manager, Phillip Schofield, has announced the hiring of Frank Howard, "The Capitol Punisher", as the new manager. Frank was a fan favorite during his playing days and creates a good link to the former franchise.

The next report will detail the expansion draft, trades, free-agents and coaching signings.

Reason I say that, is because I think you should let an unbiased person go through your league file and pick who will be left unprotected. That way will make it fair.

I did have an "unbiased" 3rd party select the available players. Due to time constraints he selected one veteran (1 player within the last 5 years of career) and one rookie (still on minor league salary) per team. After looking at the names we made a few adjustments and then split the players evenly amoung Colorado and Washington. The following were the results:

I wasn't saying you would be biased. I am thinking of doing an expansion in my league, and I think I would be biased if I went through and picked the players to drop, so I was just wondering what you did to drop players.
