I hope she takes the dirtbag to the cleaners.
She is planning legal action. Good. Make ESPN pay, too. She ought to sue the social media apps as well and help put an end to this kind of nonsense.
ESPN’s Pat McAfee and others amplified a false rumor. A teenager’s life was ‘destroyed’

Jesus. Read the last two paragraphs of that article and marvel over how bad a business model is involved here: Pandering to the stupidity and base instincts of the worst of us for the sake of "a few more clicks." And then realize what it does to the people involved. Everyone.

Aside from the selfish reasons that I hope this gets McAfee fired from his job at WWE (namely, I can't stand him…"Let's gooooooo" away and never come back, you worthless turd. Commentary jobs should go to former wrestlers, because they've earned them. You've never taken a serious bump in your life [/soapbox]), what's happening here is disgusting on many levels. I hope the Cornetts make serious bank out of the lawsuit.
But let's also talk about the failure of Kappa Delta. Why is Mary Kate not able to safely live in the sorority house? Why can't she eat dinner with her (supposed) friends? The entire point of a sorority is that these are the "sisters" you choose. If they can't protect one of their own from this sort of crap, they need to refund the dues ($6622 annually, it appears) that all of the members pay. A Greek organization is a business, too. If you can't run it responsibly, there should be consequences. ![]() ![]() 42,000 square feet, hundreds of girls in residence…but no home to Mary Kate when she needs one, apparently. I have no idea what happened in early childhood that makes being betrayed so triggering to me, but this has me furious. McAfee is a random asshole and the world is full of them, and that's why we have a legal system…but Kappa is supposed to have Mary Kate's back. Boo, hiss at Ol' Piss. (It's really a very lovely House. Dozens upon dozens of photos at the architect's website.) |

Any way someone can give me a summary or point to another link that isn't blocked by a paywall?

It's clickable. Bru always shares his New York Times/Athletic links as "gift articles" with the board.
(Thank you, Bru, btw.) |

When I link to a NYT article, it is indeed always as a gift article. The Athletic does not afford that capability, unfortunately. (Even though they are a subset of the NYT web site now, if you look at their URL closely.) That's why I have been asking the board if people have difficulty getting through to linked The Athletic articles. I don't think they have a strict paywall like the NYT and Washington Post, but they may have a "monthly allowance" of free clicks, after which one is barred. (In this case, you may benefit from deleting any NYT/Athletic cookies, close browser, reopen, and try again.) But Cobra, if you would be so kind as to try that link again and report back, I would appreciate it. If you do indeed have trouble, let me know and I will de-emphasize The Athletic in favor of CBS Sports. Or even ESPN, despite their association with:

I also have the capability of doing this. It's a bit klutzy, but download it and use an image viewing program to read it.
See what these clowns said on the air. Especially see the crude comment made by one of his "stooges." I will go so far as to say that people who listen to such trash for enjoyment should be ashamed of themselves. Especially in a situation like this.

While she should get some kind of judgement for her pain and suffering, I'm not sure what legal standing she has w/McAfee. The crypto thing is another matter more likely to succeed, IMO.

I sincerely hope she is able to cast a handful of dirt on their financial graves.

The New York Times is subtly hammering this guy, and rightly so. This has been the lead story in the sports section of their home page for five days now, very unusual.

By the way, today is the 7th day that the NYT has this on top of their sports section. All of the other stories around it have changed daily. Easily, for example, the story about Cooper Flagg and Duke's collapse could take top billing. Someone is apparently pi$$ed about this McAfee.

Just glad that it looks like someone finally convinced McAfee to put a shirt on.

I swear, I posted that image above shortly before noon EST. The I visited the NYT home page again, say, some time before 3PM (I had a doctor appointment at that time so that's how I know). The story had moved down a notch or two and I thought "Well, it's finally over."
Not! It was quarter after 7pm when I took the image below. Not only is it back on top, seven days in a row, but every other story has changed from this morning with the exception of the gaffe the Pirates pulled with Roberto Clemente's honorary number. This is extraordinary.

Update.
I was celebrating class in two other threads tonight; I just wish that I had posted this first rather than leaving this contra-class garbage on top of the board, even temporarily. ESPN's Pat McAfee doesn't apologize for Mary Kate Cornett situation, but promises 'silver lining' This character can't even duck the issue without appearing smarmy.
