Do you have "adjust for weight class differences" checked on your fight options screen?
I recreated your matchup a few times with that option enabled and Honeyghan never made it past the 1st round. |

I've seen this happen several times throughout the series of the Trunzos' boxing games. My most memorable and most recent example of this occured with Title Fight 2001 in my "When They Were Kings" boxing "universe". Jerry Quarry was fighting an over-the-hill Floyd Patterson, with the winner to get a shot at Joe Frazier's world title. Quarry dominated the fight from the first round on. Patterson had definitely been taking a beating and Quarry had an insurmountable lead when Patterson landed a right hand that knocked Quarry down in the 12th and final round. When the referee's count reached 10, there were literally 2 seconds left in the fight. Quarry could have been saved by the bell in the final round and won the fight if Patterson would have landed that punch 2 or 3 seconds later than he did. One thing you don't have to worry about in a Trunzo boxing game is the fight engine itself. It has been very solid during the past several incarnations of the game and is constantly being tweaked towards perfection. Last edited by Mark42661; 12-12-2003 at 12:17 AM. |

The problem here is that if we make the program so "ultra-realistic" that certain occurrences are basically 100
%, then all suspense, surprise, and rare upsets go out the window. It is a very fine line. Another factor is this: when you use the adjustment to move a fighter up in weight, it does take into consideration what division a fighter is moving from and moving too. However, overall, the changes are generic. We have to err on the conservative side to allow for all exigencies. Please don't forget that the fighters in the game span many eras. Mickey Walker fought and beat heavyweights! Robert Fitzsimmons was hell on wheels as a middleweight, won the heavyweight crown BEFORE he won the light-heavy title. And Sam Langford - well forget it! The point is - our goal is to assure that the correct fighter wins an acceptable number of times out of 100 fights, for example. Randomness explains why sometimes the fighter goes out in the 2nd round as expected and lasts longer in others. The CONSENSUS result is what we use to judge accuracy. How many times, out of 100 or 1000 bouts, does the same result occur? That is our gauge. I hope this explains things a bit. |
