Question on Scouting
Asking about at which point do you act on a scouting analysis (offering contracts, acting on trades, etc)?
Low Average High Very High Do you hold a trade to get a better idea on what you are getting on your return? Just wondering. I do my own scouting based on stats, player war and age, OPS+ and for pitchers FIP and ERA+. Any other stats? |

It sounds like you've settled on evaluation by stats and that you're happy with that. If so why rethink the decision to ignore ratings? I suggest you take the final step and set the ratings so they don't display.
Be cautious about WAR. I consider it unreliable when comparing players at different positions. That's because the position adjustment is based on how real life managers use the players. And how they use them isn't based on data. It's based on anecdotal impressions. I prefer RC27 over WAR when comparing players at different positions. WAR is OK for the same position but unlike RC27 it is necessary to make an additional calculation to adjust for opportunity. |
