palette.fm, et al. The center stripe was the only one that was fairly observable. Wild guess on the other two and not sure they look convincing. Assumed home vs. road as HOF image indicates fewer stripes. |

This is a great point for prospective colorizers. A little tweaking of the black and white image before attempting to add color can make a big difference in the final outcome. |

Al Hermann 1923
Quote:
This image of Al Hermann with the Boston Braves is from either 1923 or 1924, not sure which. Only 1 of his 32 appearances was in 1924 so highly probable it originates from 1923. Started 15 games at second, 4 at third and one at first. Right handed batter who struck out in his only plate appearance of 1924. Last edited by UKBaseballfan; 02-11-2025 at 11:58 AM. |

I'm o.k. with the face but the rest is "meh". I suspect there may be more going on uniform wise on the lower left but I couldn't tell from the starting image. I made the executive decision to make this a road uniform since I didn't want to deal with stripes which weren't visible anyway. |

Allen Elliott 1923
Quote:
Allen Elliott's Major League career consisted of a 2 year stint with the Chicago Cubs making his debut in 1923. A first baseman who batted left but threw right. 53 of his 63 games were with the 1923 team. His 1924 productivity was nowhere near the level he reached in 1923, slugging .143 in 14 at bats. His image shows him wearing the 1924 uniform. |

John Woods 1924
Yes I thought it would be a strong candidate for a wonderful upgrade, thank you. Attached is a 1924 image of John Woods with the Boston Red Sox. Right handed pitcher Woods is one whose Major League career consisted of 1 appearance. He pitched the final inning of the game he played in facing 6 batters and walking 3. He did manage to emerge without giving up a run. |

Disclaimers apply: I found this in a 1955 photopack here. I extracted the file and did a 4x enlargement in Topaz Photo AI. I have no idea if this was originally taken from an actual photo or if it was a Photoshopped mashup but it was all I could find. |

Irish Meusel 1914
Quote:
Just downloaded this Irish Meusel image from 1924 with the Giants from the current RMY auction. One of 2 brothers who were highly prominent both with New York, one in the National League and the other in the American League. Irish started his Major League career in 1914 , 6 years before brother, Bob. There were similarities in their careers as outfielders but Bob, aside from his final year in Cincinnati, spent the rest of his career with the Yankees. On the other hand Irish found prominence initially with the Phillies as a starter in 1918 before joining the Giants. His Major League career had started with Washington in 1914 and then returned 4 years later with Philadelphia. He waited 4 years to record his first hit as his stay in Washington consisted of just 1 hitless game. Emil (Irish) joined the Giants from the Phillies during the 1921 season. He helped the Giants win the NL pennant and triumph over the Yankees, including his brother, in the World Series. He ended his career with a .310 batting average and an .813 OPS. In his first 4 full seasons with the Giants he drove in, 132,125,102 and 111 runs respectively, leading the League in 1923 with 125. His output diminishing to 62 in 1926, he joined Brooklyn in 1927. Scored 100 runs or more in 1922 and 1923. Accumulated more than 200 hits in both 1921 and 1922. Slugged over .500 4 times reaching a peak in 1921 of .560. Twice amassed more than 300 Total Bases topping at 314 in 1922. The vast majority of his games in the outfield were in left field. In 1923 when he lead the League in RBI he struck out just 16 times, and never fanned more than 33 times in a season. California born he earned his nickname through his appearance not his heritage. Used kolorize on this one. With a name like Irish, I thought the eyes should be green. I have no idea what they really were. I assumed home uniform but it would be easy enough to do away if desired (layers are your friend). |

Actually, the opposite - because of his pale skin and red hair... chances are he had blue eye... but hey this photo update is just plain fantastic!!! if it was me, I leave it alone... just great!
