April 1892
England - First Division ![]() 1890 Champions Preston North End take the lead with an amazing start including a 16 game winning streak! Aidan Andrews leads the way with a 9-1 record, 2.02 ERA and 36 strikeouts, but it's been a league leading offense that has them in first place. Hitters such as LF Connor Brown (.310/.423/.470), 2B Daniel Baker (.311/.383/.519) and 3B Brendan Heneghan (.322/.425/.422) have been amongst the league's best this month. Burnley continue their tendency of having a league-best rotation with Joe Yule (0.67 ERA) having a start that's up to par with the usual stars in lefties Keith Coleman (2.12 ERA) and Everton Hanson (2.03 ERA). Wolves are also up there, with a record that's almost the same as their record after April 1891. Other teams such as Everton and Aston Villa could make it an interesting race this year. Hitting Leaders RF Jamie Coulter - Sunderland - .382/.452/.451, 4 2B, 1 HR, 12 RBI, 7 SB SS Aidan Hunter - Derby - .382/.442/.549, 2 2B, 3 3B, 3 HR, 19 RBI C Sean Bernerd - Preston - .274/.511/.355, 1 3B, 1 HR, 6 RBI CF Paul Brodie - West Brom - .323/.402/.556, 7 2B, 2 3B, 4 HR, 19 RBI, 15 SB LF Everton Brown - Aston Villa - .358/.475/.516, 8 2B, 2 3B, 1 HR, 17 RBI, 38 SB 3B Riley Creamer - Stoke - .277/.330/.446, 7 3B, 14 RBI, 7 SB RF Mason Price - Wolves - .300/.447/.544, 5 2B, 1 3B, 5 HR, 21 RBI, 2 SB 1B Griff Poole - Preston - .291/.318/.456, 7 2B, 2 HR, 23 RBI Pitching Leaders RH Aidan Andrews - Preston - 9-1, 89 IP, 2.02 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, 36 K, 25 BB LH Keith Coleman - Burnley - 6-1, 89.1 IP, 2.12 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 40 K, 17 BB RH Joe Yule - Burnley - 3-0, 27 IP, 0.67 ERA, 0.59 WHIP, 15 K, 4 BB LH Darren Knight - Derby - 6-1, 81 IP, 1.44 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 32 K, 30 BB LH Everton Hanson - Burnley - 5-3, 71 IP, 2.03 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, 33 K, 16 BB LH Brad Burrows - Blackburn - 5-3, 72.2 IP, 3.47 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 45 K, 35 BB RH Marcus Pearce - Wednesday - 0-1, 30.1 IP, 3.56 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 3 K, 8 BB England - Second Division ![]() Burton, Ardwick and Lincoln lead the race for qualification to the test matches. Burton placed second last year when the Baseball Alliance was still independent, and they're clearly the best team this year as they're on a 10 game winning streak. Ardwick and Lincoln are good offensive teams who should also finish in the top 3, vying for a place in the First Division. Hitting Leaders SS Lewis Reade - Ardwick - .427/.464/.699, 10 2B, 6 HR, 15 RBI 1B Nick Jackson - Burton - .282/.472/.500, 2 2B, 5 HR, 17 RBI LF Jordan Sullivan - Ardwick - .355/.411/.627, 12 2B, 6 HR, 28 RBI, 2 SB CF Dwayne Baird - Burton - .234/.351/.383, 5 2B, 3 3B, 1 HR, 10 RBI, 11 SB LF Bryan Thom - Northwich - .168/.282/.238, 1 2B, 3 3B, 2 RBI, 10 SB 2B Idris Vaughan - Grimsby - .310/.384/.630, 5 2B, 9 HR, 26 RBI, 2 SB CF Dermott Cookson - Ardwick - .305/.385/.524, 4 2B, 2 3B, 5 HR, 14 RBI, 25 SB Pitching Leaders RH Ben Gibson - Burton - 9-0, 75 IP, 1.92 ERA, 0.73 WHIP, 80 K, 13 BB RH Callum Hamilton - Ardwick - 9-0, 81 IP, 0.78 ERA, 0.64 WHIP, 90 K, 9 BB RH Kane Deighton - Darwen - 7-2, 105 IP, 2.91 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 115 K, 25 BB RH Spencer Sanders - Grimsby - 2 SV, 36.1 IP, 1.73 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 29 K, 7 BB RH Kian Aldridge - Lincoln - 5-2, 51 IP, 3.00 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, 39 K, 7 BB Scotland ![]() Rangers lead the league by the finest of margins, with all teams less than 6 games and 4 teams within 2 games of the lead. Rangers are being carried by a rotation headlined by Ben Boyd: 4-1, 1.23 ERA, 0.95 WHIP. The BHC results leave no doubt as to the talent in the Scottish league, and there is no clear favorite for the title at this point. Ulster's rotation are the best: Colman O'Brien (1.78 ERA), Derby Evans (1.97 ERA) and Brandon Collins (2.31 ERA). Cliftonville also has a stacked rotation behind Steve Lawrence (2.51 ERA), but it's their offense, led by Scottish SS Kian Anderson (.278/.364/.433), that makes Cliftonville true title contenders this year. May 1892
England - First Division ![]() Three clear contenders have emerged with just over a month and a half remaining. Wolverhampton have taken the lead thanks to an explosive offense with players like RF Mason Price (.315/.472/.591), CF Lee Patterson (.290/.422/.484) and 3B Theo O'Keeffe (.306/.409/.480) all mid-season contenders for Player of the Season. Preston's pitching has slowed down, but their offense has kept them in contention with C Sean Bernerd (.308/.492/.383) and 2B Daniel Barker (.295/.358/.449) also competing for PotS honors. The Lancashire squad are just a half-game back from the lead, with important series against Wolves and Aston Villa coming at the tail-end the end of the season. Aston Villa have scored more runs than any other team, but a shoddy rotation and even inconsistent hitting at times have lead to them being just 3rd. Either way, they're just 3 games back and are just 7 wins away from putting up their best season in history. Perhaps their strong offense could surprise everyone and see them win their first title. Hitting Leaders SS Aidan Hunter - Derby - .359/.416/.535, 4 2B, 5 3B, 7 HR, 38 RBI C Sean Bernerd - Preston - .308/.492/.383, 2 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR, 16 RBI CF Paul Brodie - West Brom - .331/.423/.614, 9 2B, 4 3B, 8 HR, 31 RBI, 20 SB RF Mason Price - Wolves - .315/.472/.591, 9 2B, 1 3B, 10 HR, 39 RBI, 5 SB RF Jamie Coulter - Sunderland - .348/.409/.426, 7 2B, 3 3B, 1 HR, 26 RBI, 15 SB LF Ross Matheson - Accrington - .338/.390/.485, 17 2B, 6 3B, 31 RBI, 5 SB 3B Riley Creamer - Stoke - .290/.344/.480/, 11 2B, 12 3B, 1 HR, 29 RBI, 10 SB 1B Euan Mackenzie - Bolton - .319/.397/.519, 6 2B, 2 3B, 9 HR, 42 RBI, 1 SB CF Everton Brown - Aston Villa - .326/.444/.516, 13 2B, 7 3B, 3 HR, 31 RBI, 54 SB Pitching Leaders LH Jay Groves - Wolves - 15-3, 161 IP, 2.12 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 31 K, 35 BB LH Keith Coleman - Burnley - 10-4, 169.1 IP, 2.02 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 70 K, 33 BB RH Everton Taylor - Everton - 12-6, 165.1 IP, 1.74 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 74 K, 48 BB RH Joe Yule - Burnley - 8-3, 93.2 IP, 2.21 ERA, 0.85 WHIP, 41 K, 20 BB LH Brad Burrows - Blackburn - 9-6, 140 IP, 2.64 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 77 K, 57 BB RH Aaron Thomson - Accrington - 5-3, 71.1 IP, 2.90 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 24 K, 16 BB England - Second Division ![]() With 5 series left, Lincoln, Ardwick and Burton have all but secured a spot in the trial matches and a shot at consideration for a spot in the First Division. English LF Sean Standfield (.350/.415/.442) has done wonders for them in his first season in organized ball. Leith are the closest, but they might be lacking the star power for the title. Rangers, who face 3rd Lanark in the final games, have a shot at their first title despite inconsistent performances. Hearts will face Dumbarton and Renton face Abercorn as the title is decided in the last series! Players like RHP Colman O'Brien (1.76 ERA, 1.04 WHIP) and CF Neal Hamilton (.254/.316/.434) were key as just a single game separated Ulster and Cliftonville. Player of the Year - C Jack Murray - Linfield - 1st Murray was the best player in a disappointing Linfield squad. The London native showcased great skill, leading the league with a .323/.444/.510 slash, as well as a .955 OPS and 2.0 WAR. Murray was great behind the plate as well, throwing out 28.2% of runners who tried. June 1892
England - First Division ![]() What difference a month makes! The Villans were 20-5-1 in June while Wolves' form took a steep dive after a 6-17-3 record. A 10 game winless streak sees Wolverhampton nearly out of contention as just 4 series remain! On the other hand, an 8 game winning streak sees the Birmingham club overtake everyone and claim the top spot. With an easier remaining schedule (.521 vs .627 opponent record), the Lions are favorites to win it all ahead of Preston, but they'll have to be at their best, facing the North End and Burnley in the final two series of the season. On the other side of the table, Newton Heath, Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday will be playing in the test matches. July 1892 - End of Season
There was only one competition left this month: England - First Division ![]() Preston North End win the 1892 Baseball League First Division! It is their second title in 3 years. Series wins against Derby, Aston Villa and West Bromwich secure the title for the Lancashire club. Their offense hits for average, and the strategy seemed to pay off as they were the 2nd best offense in the league. Players like C Sean Bernerd (.306/.472/.426), CF Ronald Hawkins (.361/.397/.467) and RF Feheen Pannett (.327/.372/.428) were key for the title race. Their rotation was the 5th best, with Aidan Andrews (21-6, 2.40 ERA, 1.10 WHIP) and Douggie Murray (19-7, 2.41 ERA, 1.24 WHIP) providing career-best performances. The test matches with the Second Division were won by Lincoln (vs Newton Heath), Burton (vs Nottingham Forest) and Ardwick (vs Sheffield Wednesday), with the three teams joining the league. (Comissioner note: since we're going for fictional results with real clubs and leagues, I'm promoting all 3 teams due to the following. 1) Accrington resigned from the league after losing their test match, deciding not to play in the 2nd division in 1892. 2) Newton Heath [aka Manchester United] won their test match and stayed in the league. Because of this, I'm removing Accrington as per IRL and promoting all 3 winning teams while leaving Newton Heath in the First Division thus leaving the league at 16 teams. More news about changes coming in the next post.) Global Awards Ballon d'Or: SS Aidan Hunter - 1st, Derby - .322/.398/.520, 9 2B, 7 3B, 14 HR, 63 RBI, 20.9 ZR, 2.90 WPA, 7.7 WAR Pitcher Award: LH Keith Coleman - 2nd, Burnley - 21-6, 293.1 IP, 1.53 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, 136 K, 55 BB, 8.5 WPA, 10.2 WAR U21 Award: RHP Kai Booth - 1st, Ardwick - 12-7, 171.1 IP, 2.63 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 144 K, 51 BB, 2.0 WPA, 3.8 WAR |

The first star player has retired: Bolton 3B Noah Mathieson.
![]() At time of retirement, here are Mathieson's positions for several career statistics: AVG - 4th, .307 OBP - 16th, .367 SLG - 5th, .433 OPS - 6th, .800 Hits - 11th, 354 2B - 15th, 54 3B - 3rd, 46 SB - 6th, 177 He was featured in the Team of the Year for the 1888 and 1889 seasons. Mathieson also participated in 3 editions of the British Home Championship (1888-90), here are his positions for career statistics: AVG - 3rd, .371 OBP - 5th, .458 SLG - 3rd, .500 OPS - 3rd, .958 Hits - t-16th, 26 2B - t-10th, 5 3B - t-8th, 2 SB - t-13th, 2 WAR - 14th, 0.74 After a 5-season career, Matheson is eligible for Hall of Fame voting in 1894 due to reaching 5 service years. (I have set this limit as the guidelines presented below would mean a player needs to play the equivalent of 6.6 full seasons to be eligible and 5 is the closest to this). This is a good point to talk about how I will be handling the Hall of Fame. As I'm running everything, I will be deciding which players make it or not into the Hall of Fame. Following the tendencies of both Premier League Hall of Fame and the World Football Hall of Fame in Pachuca for a large Hall of Fame, I will be inducting as many players as I see fit (IRL they induct 7-8 players a year, though the PL HoF has slowed down in recent years). Perhaps some of you baseball people who are used to a smaller Hall of Fame won't like this idea, but I'm following what's done in real life for football. I will be following some guidelines however, because they don't induct anyone and everyone but mostly recognized or popular players with the stats or awards to show for. In general, I will be following the Premier League Hall of Fame guidelines but of course adjusted to baseball. In order to even be considered, players must have one of the following: - 750 appearances in the league (250 starts for pitchers) - or, 600 appearances for a single club (200 starts for pitchers) - or, has been selected to at least 5 Teams of the Year - or, won a batting title or ERA title - or, has been selected Player/Pitcher of the Year at least once - or, won 3 First Division titles - or, has at least 300 career RBI or 150 career wins - All players in the top 20 for WAR at time of retirement will also be considered From that point on, players will be inducted as "usual" based on their regular stats, WAR and award wins. As an example, Noah Mathieson only played 313 games and is not automatically eligible for the Hall. He did win the 1888 batting title, so he becomes eligible thanks to that. Looking at his stats, he really only had one very good season in 1888 and one good season in 1889, declining after that and starting in less than 20% of games in 1892 before retiring. Because of these reasons, Mathieson will not be elected into the Hall of Fame. ... and so on for all players who retire. If any of you have any ideas, suggestions or general comments about how I'm handling this, feel free to leave a response to this thread. Thanks for reading!

Changes prior to the 1893 Season:
England - Accrington resigns from the league, ceasing to exist. Their final record was 142-179-45 after 5 seasons, their best finish had just come in 1892 when they came in 8th place. - Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday are relagated to the Second Division - Burton, Ardwick and Lincon are promoted to the First Division with Newton Heath remaining to leave the league at 16 teams still - Bootle resigns from the league - Liverpool, Newcastle United, Woolwich Arsenal, Middlesbrough Ironopolis and Rotherham Town are allowed into the Second Division, taking it to 15 teams - Fun fact: Rotherham employed a man named Arthur Wharton, widely considered to be the first black professional football player. Due to this reason, I have included him by name in-game. - The first official transfer happened in 1893 when Aston Villa bought Willie Groves of West Bromwich for 100 british pounds, which is why I'm enabling trades from this season on. Clubs in England and Scotland (a bit more on that later) will be able to trade/transfer players. Scotland - The Scottish Baseball League turns professional, this also allows for teams to transfer players amongst themselves and with English clubs. - The Second Division is added, with the participation of 10 clubs Ireland - Derry Olympic withdraw after a last place season - Ligoniel returns to the league to keep it at 6 teams Argentina - The league makes a return with Buenos Aires and Rosario Railway, Flores, Lomas, Quilmes Rovers and Buenos Aires English High School as members |

The 1893 British Home Championship is upon us!
To nobody's surprise, England is the favorite to win it all once again. The Three Lions have won 4 of the 5 previous editions. Their rotation once again consists of Keith Coleman, Marvin Healy and Oscar Swan. In the lineup, stars such as CF Paul Brodie, LF Everton Brown, SS Anthony Dean and C Sean Bernerd are joined by Stoke SS Harry Howarth, making his England debut. A newly professionalized Scotland squad is looking for its second British trophy. Their rotation sees Christopher Clark play his 5th tournament and Rangers' Benjamin Boyd joined by a 24 year old Dylan Anderson, currently playing for league newcomers Dundee. In the lineup, the usuals LF Lewis Johnston, LF Ross Matheson and C Aidan Weir are joined by Dundee RF "Big Lou" Morrison. The Welsh club will once again rally behind 2B Shane Pollard, who will be participating in his 6th tournament! Leicester born LF William Phillips was finally convinced by the Welsh BA to join the team for the British Championship. The Wolves outfielder is the only new addition to the starting lineup, but will it be enough to get Wales to compete once again? Ireland, expected to come last once again, sees the most new faces join the squad in 1893. Glentoran C Fineen Price, Ulster 2B Colin McCorkell (1892 NIR1 Team of the Year), Ulster 3B Fionn Bailey (who joined them a couple months ago after being rejected by English teams), and Ulster LF Neal Hamilton (1892 NIR1 Team of the Year) all will make their debut this year. The national team turns to first-time champions Ulster as they hope to get back to winning ways. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Wales vs Ireland Joshua Lewis delivers with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th as Wales win the first game, 2-1. Stuart Miles (9 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 2 K) was named player of the game. Ireland bounce back in game 2, holding off a strong Welsh offensive to win 5-4. 1B Theo O'Keeffe hit a 3 run homer in the 5th, earning him player of the game honors. Sebastian Duncan earns his first win in his first BHC start, leading the Dragons to a 8-1 win. Duncan allowed 7 hits, one unearned run with 4 walks and a K in his 6th appearance for Wales. England vs Scotland A 9-run first inning sees the Three Lions cruise to a 12-5 win. RF Mason Price (3-4, HR, 4 RBI) was named player of the game. Marvin Healy (9 IP, 9 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 2 K) shuts out the Tartan Army as England win 7-0. Everton Brown has 3 hits, including a 3 run bomb. Oscar Swan secures the sweep for England, allowing just 2 runs on 4 hits, walking 2 and striking out 1 as England win 6-2. Sean Bernerd has 2 hits and 3 RBI, including a 2 run homer. England's perfect records pushes them to the top once again, with Wales one game behind. Ireland are 2 games back, while Scotland are hoping they can recover from an opening series sweep. Ireland vs England England smash Ireland 10-3 in game 1. Everton Brown earns the player of the game honors after breaking the record for most steals in a single game (5). England score 6 in the 2nd and fight off late rallies from Ireland to win game 2, 8-5. Irish 3B Fionn Bailey (3-4, 2B, 2 RBI) was named player of the game. A 6-3 game 3 win behind Oscar Swan (9 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 1 K) means England has pretty much won the 1893 Championship! Wales vs Scotland An RBI single from Ian Wallis helps Scotland scrape past Wales, 2-1. Christopher Clark (9 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 6 BB, 2 K) was named player of the game. Benjamin Boyd (9 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, 3 K) leads Scotland to a 7-2 win with Ross Matheson and Lewis Morrison earning 3 hits and 2 RBI each. After exchanging blows only in the 3rd inning, Wales win 2-1 and must now sweep England in Deepdale to win it all. England continue with a perfect record! Wales must now win all 3 remaining games against England to win it. Scotland (2-4) and Ireland (1-5) are mathematically eliminated. England vs Wales The Three Lions lay it all out to clinch the title with an impressive 22-6 win! Anthony Dean (3-4, 2B, 5 RBI) was named player of the game. A rotated England squad scores 5 in the 8th to win it 9-7. Welsh pitcher Douggie Murray set a record, walking 13 of England's batters. Oscar Swan and England complete the sweep with a 8-1 win. Scotland vs Ireland Playing just for their honor, Scotland win game 1, 4 runs to 2. Christopher Clark (9 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K) was named player of the game. Scotland take game 2, 15-2 to overtake Wales in the 2nd place. Ireland and Scotland split the final game, with it ending 3-3 after Scotland come back and score in the 7th, 8th and 9th innings. ![]() England win the 1893 British Home Championship! April 1893
England - First Division ![]() After a rough two years, Everton are back in contention after a fantastic start! They're the 2nd best offense by OPS, with 1B Harvey Dean (.370/.433/.617), 1B Colm Stanford (.348/.429/.576), and Douglas Rousset (.383/.451/.543) leaders in this category. Their pitching hasn't been bad, but there's better rotations out there. Everton Taylor (5-0, 2.32 ERA, 1.34 WHIP) is the club leader on the mound. The Toffees are being chased pretty closely by several teams, but they seem to be able to win on the road (7-1-1) and in close games (2-0), so I expect they'll be towards the top of the table once again this year. The best offense is just a half game back from the top, though we'll see how losing star SS Anthony Dean for the season will affect the performance of Notts County. Players like 2B Shane Pollard (.400/.515/.573), 1B Carl Pemberton (.393/.470/.500) and RF Richard Dundon (.381/.425/.536) are filling the void nicely. The Magpies are also struggling to find traction on the mound, with Darren Hutton (8-1, 2.73 ERA, 1.34 WHIP) powering what is now the 6th best rotation. Speaking of rotations, Blackburn have the best performing starters in the league. Peter Neilson (5-2, 1.62 ERA, 1.18 WHIP), Brad Burrows (4-2, 2.89 ERA, 1.36 WHIP) and Jacob Owen (9 IP, 1 ER) have provided performances that have allowed Blackburn's offense to play with less pressure, leading to a 4th best run scoring record despite their underlying stats being just a bit worse. The Rovers have turned Leamington Road into a fortress, only losing one game at home, and if they manage to perform a bit better on the road, they might turn into title favorites. Hitting Leaders RF Jamie Coulter - Sunderland - .420/.469/.523, 3 2B, 2 HR, 13 RBI, 6 SB 2B Shane Pollard - Notts County - .400/.515/.573, 2 2B, 1 3B, 3 HR, 16 RBI, 1 SB 1B Harvey Dean - Everton - .370/.433/.617, 7 2B, 2 3B, 3 HR, 12 RBI, 12 SB RF Richard Dundon - Notts County - .381/.425/.536, 7 2B, 4 3B, 12 RBI, 4 SB LF Everton Gardner - Aston Villa - .333/.413/.591, 2 2B, 5 HR, 19 RBI SS Danny Campbell - Aston Villa - .375/.474/.562, 4 2B, 1 3B, 3 HR, 23 RBI, 3 SB CF Ronald Hawkins - Preston - .291/.330/.349, 3 2B, 1 3B, 9 RBI, 26 SB Pitching Leaders RH Darren Hutton - Notts County - 8-1, 79 IP, 2.73 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, 21 K, 24 BB RH Eddie Pickersgill - Aston Villa - 6-1, 66.1 IP, 1.22 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, 19 K, 21 BB LH Keith Coleman - Burnley - 3-3, 70 IP, 2.44 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 16 K, 14 BB RH Albert Morris - Stoke - 5-2, 59.2 IP, 3.92 ERA, 1.54 WHIP, 22 K, 36 BB RH Stuart Miles - Derby - 1-3, 44.1 IP, 5.08 ERA, 1.60 WHIP, 3 K, 9 BB England - Second Division ![]() Grimsby had come 4th two seasons in a row, and it looks like it's finally their time for an opportunity in the First Division. Darwen were relegated in 1891, but this year they've managed to convince several former Accrington players to guide them back. Sheffield Wednesday were relegated and are struggling to find their footing in the Second Divison, but it is Sheffield United showing up for the South Yorkshire city as they seek promotion. Hitting Leaders LF Roarty Morgan - Rotherham - .392/.455/.519, 1 2B, 3 HR, 6 RBI 1B Duane Clarke - Newcastle - .354/.456/.600, 7 2B, 3 HR, 14 RBI LF Jacob Budgen - Northwich - .288/.388/.521, 8 2B, 3 HR, 7 RBI, 3 SB LF Bradley Grinham - Darwen - .302/.413/.492, 2 2B, 2 3B, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 6 SB LF Jason Thomas - Sheffield Utd. - .287/.326/.483, 2 2B, 5 HR, 7 RBI, 8 SB CF Archie Hill - Rotherham - .178/.333/.397, 4 2B, 4 HR, 17 RBI LF Glen Smith - Crewe Alex. - .271/.386/.353, 1 2B, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 23 SB Pitching Leaders LH Isaac Clark - Grimsby - 7-0, 64.1 IP, 2.10 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, 45 K, 9 BB LH Damien Lewis - Darwen - 5-1, 53 IP, 0.85 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 44 K, 22 BB RH Daniel Scott - Grimsby - 2-2, 40.2 IP, 1.55 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, 34 K, 9 BB RH Denzel Butterworth - Port Vale - 4-3, 63.1 IP, 2.70 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 62 K, 12 BB LH Dennis Houghton - Liverpool - 1-3, 45.1 IP, 2.98 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 37 K, 7 BB Scotland - Division One ![]() It's as tight as ever in the Scottish league, with three teams leading the way. St. Mirren's rotation is the 3rd best in the league, compensating for a pretty average offensive output. Their lineup is still pretty talented and could take them all the way. On the flipside, reigning champions 3rd LRV have scored more runs than anyone despite a lack of real standouts, while a 4th best rotation is being helped by some good defending. Rangers hold the third place, as their rotation is the best in the league. Scotland national team star Benjamin Boyd leads their rotation, fighting for a Triple Crown with a 4-2 record, 2.59 ERA and 16 K. At the end of the table, Celtic had a 12 game winless streak to start the season. They now face a serious threat of relegation. England - First Division ![]() Everton have widened their league to 3 games after a 13-game lossless streak that was snapped early in the month. They've been a hot team this month, with their current 5 game winning streak being their second one this month. Their offense has been the best, but they're second in runs scored (7 runs behind Stoke). Despite some pretty bad defense at CF, Harvey Dean continues to carry the Toffees' offense, hitting .312/.373/.484 so far this year. Dean is tied in first place for team RBIs with 28, matched by SS Riley Thomas (.305/.348/.384). Their rotation took a huge blow towards the end of the month, when it was announced Everton "Coach" Taylor's shoulder was inflamed, which means he'll miss the rest of the season. Serious questions arise as to his continuation in pro baseball, with this being his age 41 season. Oscar Swan is now the rotation leader, he's got a 12-5 record so far, with a 3.15 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP. The Blackburn Rovers have kept on going at home, and now have a 18-6-1 record at Leamington Road. This is mostly due to their rotation being the second best in the league, and with a very effective defense behind them, they've managed to allow the least runs. Their offense could use a boost in order to compete however, as the numbers show they're getting on base but not scoring. Peter Neilson (2.53 ERA, 1.24 WHIP) emerges as a surprise Pitcher of the Year contender. Hitting Leaders RF Douglas Cooney - Stoke - .373/.415/.447, 4 2B, 4 3B, 17 RBI, 1 SB 2B Shane Pollard - Notts - .350/.493/.475, 6 2B, 1 3B, 4 HR, 25 RBI, 1 SB LF Lee Patterson - Wolves - .333/.400/.622, 12 2B, 8 3B, 8 HR, 31 RBI, 6 SB CF Paul Brodie - West Brom - .307/.379/.483, 15 2B, 5 3B, 2 HR, 24 RBI, 24 SB RF Mason Price - Wolves - .292/.415/.590, 6 2B, 3 3B, 12 HR, 39 RBI, 2 SB SS Danny Campbell - Aston Villa - .348/.424/.503, 10 2B, 3 3B, 4 HR, 45 RBI, 4 SB CF Ronald Hawkins - Preston - .269/.301/.326, 5 2B, 3 3B, 25 RBI, 48 SB Pitching Leaders RH Darren Hutton - Notts - 12-3, 168 IP, 2.46 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 50 K, 51 BB RH Oscar Swan - Everton - 12-5, 145.2 IP, 3.15 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 31 K, 57 BB RH Eddie Pickersgill - Aston Villa - 10-5, 141.2 IP, 1.59 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 33 K, 44 BB LH Keith Coleman - Burnley - 6-5, 151 IP, 2.21 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 40 K, 32 BB RH Josh Cartwright - Blackburn - 5-3, 57.2 IP, 3.59 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, 14 K, 22 BB England - Second Division ![]() It's a pretty exciting race for the top 3 and the test matches. Grimsby have the best defense, and while their lineup is talented, they don't have enough runs to show for it. Rotherham's Arthur Wharton has been the best pitcher this year, and they'll be in the chase for the test matches. Ironopolis have the best offense, at least when it counts, but they have some ground to cover if they want the chance to play in the First Division next year. Hitting Leaders 1B Declan Croft - Ironopolis - .363/.459/.554, 6 2B, 8 HR, 22 RBI, 1 SB LF Harrison Naylor - Sheffield Utd. - .305/.401/.457, 16 2B, 3 HR, 21 RBI RF Colin Cox - Rotherham - .306/.396/.439, 5 2B, 2 3B, 4 HR, 17 RBI, 1 SB C Freddie Stewart - Arsenal - .253/.280/.446, 5 2B, 9 HR, 28 RBI LF Harley Crawford - Port Vale - .335/.384/.518, 14 2B, 1 3B, 5 HR, 31 RBI, 6 SB LF Glen Smith - Crewe - .253/.350/.339, 3 2B, 4 HR, 13 RBI, 39 SB Pitching Leaders LH Scott Bruce - Sheffield Wed. - 14-5, 126.2 IP, 3.34 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 91 K, 44 BB RH Denzel Butterworth - Port Vale - 9-5, 142.2 IP, 2.90 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 127 K, 22 BB RH Arthur Wharton - Rotherham - 12-3, 142 IP, 1.39 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, 118 K, 26 BB RH Jon Kent - Crewe - 3-5, 106 IP, 2.63 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 43 K, 13 BB LH Damien Lewis - Darwen - 9-4, 129 IP, 1.67 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, 114 K, 37 BB Scotland - Division One ![]() Rangers have taken a leap into first place, now securely 4 games away from a title. They have series remaining against St. Mirren and Dundee to end the season, so a sweep against St. Mirren could see them lift the trophy early. They've clearly been the best team in the league on both sides. 1B Leon Fraser is on record-breaking pace for AVG, OBP and SLG, and Benjamin Boyd will most likely lead the league in WAR for the 4th year in a row. St. Bernard's and Celtic fight it out to avoid relegation. England - First Division ![]() Blackburn shorten the distance to just 2 games back from leaders Everton. The Rovers went 15-7-5 this month, including 8-1-2 at home! They're also 8-1 in one-run games. Needless to say, the Rovers are playing their best baseball since April behind Peter Neilson, who had a 1.89 ERA and 1.00 WHIP after 11 starts this month! On the hitting side, CF Leon Taylor has been pretty hot, slashing .306/.410/.490, driving in 20 runs. With 7 series left this month, the race is on! Everton went a bit cold, with a 15-9-3 record for a .625 win%, compared to last month's .720. Their best pitcher was Oscar Swan, who threw a 2.79 ERA and 1.32 WHIP after 10 starts this month. On the hitting side, RF Harvey Dean (.268/.355/.464, 13 RBI) has been the hottest with the bat. Their current form might be enough to get them their first title, but if they want to fend off Blackburn, they need to be at their best. Newton Heath will be playing in the trial matches, while Lincoln and Sunderland will be fighting to finish above the bottom 3. St. Bernard's are relegated to Division Two. Player of the Year was of course "Dougie" Gilbert, who earned his 2nd award and his first since 1890. The Englishman was 5th in average and OBP, 3rd in slugging and 2nd in WAR, also leading the league with 67 stolen bases. July 1893 - End of Season
England - First Division ![]() Guess what? Blackburn Rovers win their second English championship! The Rovers ended the season by going 10-5-3 in July, including completing a decisive sweep against Everton. Playing at Leamington Road was key for the Lancashire outfit, with their record there being 31-10-4 compared to 24-16-5 away from home. They were just the 8th best offensive team, with players like CF Leon Taylor (.301/.435/.453) and RF Lenny Mills (.323/.400/.460) standing out but ultimately falling short of any awards. Their pitching was what took them all the way, as they were the 2nd best rotation, allowing a 2.92 ERA. Their ERA slightly fell to 2.53 at home. We saw the breakout of Peter Neilson, who started 33 games, winning 21 of them. The Londoner had a 2.22 ERA, 1.16 WHIP with 78 strikeouts through 288 innings. It's february, that means it's time for the 1894 British Home Championship!
England are as favorites as ever, coming off back-to-back titles. Burnley's Frazer Williams is joining the rotation for the first time after being called up for the first time since 1890. In the lineup, 2B Daniel Barker will make his debut at 32 years old. Scotland will be looking for their second British championship, though their team is pretty much the same as last year's with only a pair of potential debutants in the bullpen. Wales get another shot at their first title behind 2B Shane Pollard in his 7th BHC appearance. Newton Heath's 2B Shaun Crofts (#4 prospect in the English Second Division) and LF Cedric Charlton could make their debuts this year. Ireland will be trying to add as many wins as possible with Bangor native Raymond Enion at the helm. Wolves' Manchester-born Cedric Stewart joins the national rotation for the first time. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ireland vs Scotland Scotland win the tournament opener 9-1 behind a Benjamin Boyd that allowed 10 hits. 1B Sean Douglas and CF Callum Moffat had 2 RBI each. Ireland hit back in game 2, with Stewart allowing just 2 runs on 7 hits while the lineup scored 4. Scotland secure the series with a 9-4 win. 2B Thomas Jackson had 3 RBI on 3 hits, 1B Sean Douglas had 1 RBI on 3 hits. Wales vs England England scrape by Wales with 3 runs and just one hit more. 3B Harry Howarth had 2 RBI on 3 hits. Wales make it level, blasting 11 runs to England's 8. LF Scott Chilvers had 2 RBI on 4 hits, with SS Josh Milligan and RF Idris Vaughan collecting 3 hits each. England win the final game 12-8. DH Thomas Barrett had 3 RBI on 3 hits, while SS Aidan Hunter's only hit was a 3 run bomb. LF Mo Humphreys and Howarth had 4 hits each. Scotland vs Wales Wales narrowly escape with the win after Scotland score one in the 9th to make it 6-5. 3B Fergus Harper had 3 RBI on two hits, C Ashley Reader got 3 hits. A 4 run 9th inning secures a 5-4 win for the Dragons, despite Scotland's 12 hits. The Welsh complete the sweep with another narrow 4-2 win, were the Dragons score 3 runs in the 9th to the Scots' 2. P Bertrand Paterson is crowned PotG after allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 8 hits and 2 walks. Ireland vs England Ireland shock the Three Lions in a 4-2 win. LH Brock Adams allowed 2 runs on 8 hits and 2 walks. England strike back behind Everton Taylor's great game, allowing a single run on 4 hits and 2 walks. LF Lee Patterson had 4 RBI on 2 hits. It's a series split, with the final game being a very exciting 11-11 tie. England scored 2 in the 9th inning to scrape by and hold their second place. England's RF Mason Price had 4 RBI on 4 hits, while Hunter had 4 RBI on 2 hits. Ireland's RF Kennedy Boggs had 4 RBI on 3 hits. To everyone's surprise, Wales holds down the first spot going into the final series. England's tie leave them a half-game back, while Ireland are one game further. Scotland have a mountain to climb at 2 games back from first place. Is this the tightest fight we've seen so far?! Wales vs Ireland The Irish take game 1, 4-1, behind Brock Adams' 1 run game on just 6 hits and a walk. DH Brogan Moore was key for the offense, driving in 2 runs on 3 hits. A 9th inning pinch-hit double from Marcus Chapman means Wales walks it off, 6-5 in game 2. Pollard was name PotG after going 3-3 with 2 RBI. Wales play their part in the final game, beating Ireland in a 8-4 game. Fergus Harper had 3 RBI with a double. England vs Scotland A 5-5 tie in game makes this the closest title race in BHC history! Scotland scores 3 in the top of the 9th to rescue something out of this game. RF Mason Price produced 4 of England's runs on 3 hits, including a homer and 2 triples! A 6-2 win in game 2 sees the Three Lions take the top of the table by .42%! LF Lee Patterson has 3 hits, including a 2 run homer in the 5th. The Tartar Army are quite happy to spoil England's tournament on the final day with a 5-2 win. Christopher Clark surprisingly allowed just 2 runs despite 9 hits and 7 walks! SS Jonathan Young had 2 RBI on 2 hits, one of them a double. ![]() Wales win the 1894 British Home Championship! It is their first title! Something new: 1894 Preseason Predictions!
England - First Division ![]() The Wolves are expected to take home their first piece of silverware behind RF Mason Price (.304/.450/.569, 2.2 WPA last year), RHP Daniel Perrin (4.42 ERA, 1.63 WHIP, 1.1 WPA last year) and LHP Jay Groves (2.97 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 2.3 WPA last year). They came in 5th place last year (50-33-7) with their best finish being a 2nd place finish in 1891 (50-21-7). Burnley will be their closest competitors, with a rotation trio of LHP Keith Coleman (2.35 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 6.1 WPA last year), LHP Everton Hanson (3.26 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, 0.7 WPA last year) and RHP Frazer Williams (2.70 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, 1.5 WPA last year). The Clarets came 3rd last year (48-26-16), with their best season being the inaugural 1888 year when they won their first title (36-25-5). Grimsby, Rotherham and Sheffield United are expected to fall back down to the Second Division. England - Second Division ![]() Darwen are favorites to make a triumphant return to the First Division, having been relegated in 1891. Lincoln are expected to bounce right back, and they are certainly experienced at this level, having won the title in 1891. Finally, it seems like Walsall are ready to become a top tier team after spending 4 years in the Second Division. It will be an exciting season of baseball as old and new faces battle it out for a spot amongst baseball's elite! Scotland - Division One ![]() St. Mirren will be looking for their first championship, with the likes of 2B Ian Wallis (.316/.371/.433, 1.2 WPA last year), LHP Aaron Jones (3.70 ERA, 1.49 WHIP, 0.4 WPA last year), and LHP Aiden Kennedy (3.37 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 1.4 WPA last year) all poised to be top players this season. But they'll have to pry it away from one of the best in 3rd LRV, who won it all in 1892. 2B Kai Reed (.268/.343/.373, 0.8 WPA last year), RHP Connor Millar (5.08 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, -2.4 WPA last year), RHP Cameron Mason (3.20 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, 0.7 WPA last year), RHP Aidan Livingstone (4.50 ERA, 1.63 WHIP, -0.5 WPA last year), and the rest of the team are ready to bounce back and get a second one. At the other end, it seems like Celtic's luck has run out, and they're set for a spell in Division Two, though they can avoid it by outplaying teams like Dundee and Renton. Scotland - Division Two ![]() Abercorn and St. Bernard's want to spend as little time as possible in Division Two, it is them who have the best players at this level, and they'll battle for the single promotion spot. Ireland ![]() A really short season of only 18 games lays ahead. Will Linfield finally win their first title? Or will Glentoran get there before them? Cliftonville and Distillery will be looking for their second titles as well. Argentina ![]() The third official season of the Argentinian league will consist of only 24 games, and St. Andrew's is the only club who can repeat. Despite them being the first winners in 1891, the predictions favor either Flores or Lomas this year. |

April 1894
England - First Division ![]() Preseason favorites Wolverhampton are on fire, losing only 3 games this month. After losing to Derby on Opening Day, they embarked on an 11 game unbeaten streak, which was snapped by West Midlands rivals West Bromwich at home. The Wolves own both the 2nd best offense and defense of the league at this point. Their best starter has been RHP Quentin Naylor, who has a perfect 7 wins from 7 starts for a 1.92 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 1.2 WPA. Naylor has never been a standout pitcher, and his braggadocio makes it tough to root for him, but his popularity amongst Wolves fans might increase if he carries his career-best start into May. Offensively, the club is being led by 3B Gary Smith (.341/.407/.585, 21 RBI, 1.2 WPA) and CF Jamie Coulter (.409/.464/.489, 15 RBI, 1.1 WPA). The underlying numbers suggest this offensive rate is not sustainable, but the Wolves are most certainly in the hunt for their first title. Just 2 games behind, there's a team that already knows what it takes to win it all in Preston North End. Their rotation's been solid, with a veteran lefty leading the way. Edward Middleton has been with the team for two years now, making his debut for Accrington in 1888. When the club wound up in 1892, the southpaw was signed by Rotherham, but he never played for them as the Lancashire outfit purchased his contract just a couple weeks before the 1893 Opening Day. This season, Middleton holds a 6-1 record with a 3.39 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 0.5 WPA. Preston's offense is as talented as always, with 2x YPotY SS William Hogarth hitting .304/.353/.418, with 19 runs batted in and 0.8 WPA. The 39 year old captain, 1B James Harley has also been one of the top contributors, with a .423/.471/.577 slash, and driving in 13 runs for a 0.6 WPA. The club is definitely in the race, but more consistent pitching (they've only pitched 6 QS) might secure Preston North End their 3rd trophy. At the bottom of the table, Derby, Rotherham and Sheffield United have got their work cut out for them to remain in the division. Hitting Leaders C Zak Marshall - Wolves - .460/.507/.603, 6 2B, 1 HR, 14 RBI, 1 SB SS Bertrand Winward - West Brom - .387/.536/.452, 2 2B, 1 3B, 6 RBI, 1 SB CF Danny Hodder - Bolton - .395/.458/.698, 8 2B, 6 3B, 2 HR, 24 RBI, 1 SB 3B Liam Mack - Aston Villa - .444/.495/.654, 9 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR, 15 RBI, 1 SB CF Douglas Rousset - Everton - .357/.426/.548, 2 2B, 7 3B, 14 RBI, 3 SB RF Dennis Cox - Derby - .365/.419/.541, 3 2B, 4 HR, 11 RBI, 3 SB LF Mo Humphreys - Stoke - .349/.438/.566, 6 2B, 3 3B, 2 HR, 11 RBI, 15 SB Pitching Leaders RH Quentin Naylor - Wolves - 7-0, 61 IP, 1.92 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 25 K, 17 BB LH Keith Coleman - Burnley - 4-3, 72.1 IP, 1.87 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 17 K, 10 BB RH Lester Spencer - Aston Villa - 1-1, 22 IP, 3.27 ERA, 2.05 WHIP, 4 K, 7 BB RH Daniel Perrin - Wolves - 4-1, 62.1 IP, 3.47 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, 14 K, 28 BB LH Edward Middleton - Preston - 6-1, 61 IP, 3.39 ERA, 1.52 WHIP, 16 K, 30 BB England - Second Division ![]() Darwen, Arsenal and Walsall lead the way in the fight for a spot in the Test Matches. Lincoln, Newton Heath and newcomers Leicester are just one good run away from breaking into the top 3. Hitting Leaders RF Oliver Hall - Sunderland - .431/.488/.667, 11 2B, 2 HR, 8 RBI 1B Lewis Hallworth - Port Vale - .273/.354/..697, 1 2B, 9 HR, 18 RBI 2B Gael Haycock - Lincoln - .275/.362/.536, 4 2B, 1 3B, 4 HR, 14 RBI LF Leo Evans - Sunderland - .333/.371/.607, 2 2B, 7 HR, 18 RBI, 2 SB LF Glen Smith - Crewe Alex. - .267/.337/.333, 2 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 19 SB Pitching Leaders LH Robert Matheson - Darwen - 6-0, 64.2 IP, 0.70 ERA, 0.80 WHIP, 52 K, 16 BB RH Graham Knight - Birmingham - 3-7, 78.1 IP, 3.45 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 59 K, 22 BB RH Michael McBurney - Leicester - 4-4, 62 IP, 2.18 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 69 K, 16 BB RH Ian Coll - Newton Heath - 4-3, 40.1 IP, 3.79 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, 27 K, 6 BB RH Billy Rees - Newton Heath - 5-2, 77 IP, 1.64 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 50 K, 16 BB Scotland - Division One ![]() The preseason favorites also lead in Scotland, as St. Mirren finishes the month on a 5 game lossless streak. Their pitching has carried them so far, as they own the best rotation in the league. Their pitching staff has allowed 69 runs, including 5 shutouts so far. Lefty Scott Weir has been their best starter, with a near-perfect 5-0 record from 7 starts. Weir has a 2.14 ERA and 1.51 WHIP with 14 K and 22 BB. Allowing just 3 runs per game has done wonders in allowing a bottom-half offense to settle into first place. 2B Ian Wallis has been the best hitter for them, slashing .442/.473/.593. It is newly promoted Clyde, not 3rd LRV, who find themselves battling it out for first place. A 9-game winning streak early in the month had them tied for first, but a 2-4 end to April put them a game and a half back. Clyde have the 2nd best rotation, with Welsh lefty Sebastian Duncan doing well in his first season in Scotland following a November trade from Bolton. The Cardiff native is also 5-0 after 7 starts, though with a 4.13 ERA and 1.43 WHIP, striking out 8 and walking 16. 3B Jack Robertson leads the collective 2nd best offense with a .333/.408/.379 slash, driving in 14 runs. It will be an exciting race at the top if the Bully Wee can keep it up. At the bottom of the table, Dundee and Renton have a mountain to climb to avoid the drop. Hitting Leaders LF Lewis Johnston - Dumbarton - .447/.505/.706, 6 2B, 8 3B, 15 RBI, 25 SB 2B Aidan Walker - Hearts - .406/.512/.565, 6 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 7 RBI 3B Douglas Gilbert - Rangers - .443/.479/.727, 9 2B, 8 3B, 15 RBI, 22 SB LF Fraser Graham - Leith - .362/.381/.617, 1 2B, 10 3B, 1 HR, 16 RBI, 15 SB 2B Ian Wallis - St. Mirren - .442/.473/.593, 5 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR, 17 RBI, 12 SB RF Thomas Barrett - Dumbarton - .284/.419/.419, 4 2B, 3 3B, 9 RBI, 36 SB Pitching Leaders LH Scott Weir - St. Mirren - 5-0, 63 IP, 2.14 ERA, 1.51 WHIP, 14 K, 22 BB RH Cameron Mason - 3rd LRV - 5-5, 82.1 IP, 4.92 ERA, 1.59 WHIP, 20 K, 23 BB LH Andrew Gibson - Leith - 4-2, 63 IP, 3.00 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 17 K, 17 BB RH Samuel Stewart - Renton - 1-2, 26 IP, 5.54 ERA, 1.54 WHIP, 4 K, 7 BB LH Aiden Kennedy - St. Mirren - 3-1, 60.1 IP, 3.58 ERA, 1.59 WHIP, 10 K, 22 BB Scotland - Division Two ![]() St. Bernard's are hoping for an immediate return to Division One, but Abercorn and Partick Thistle will make it as difficult as they can. May 1894
England - First Division ![]() After 13 wins in May, Wolverhampton remain at the top of the First Division. A nine-game lossless streak early in the month keeps them in command, but a 5-7-1 end to it should have them worried. Their offense has considerably slowed down, slumping all the way down to 9th best in the league. LF William Philips (.287/.364/.356, 8 RBI, 0.6 WPA) and SS Aidan Jackson (.340/.386/.404, 8 RBI, 0.5 WPA) were the best hitters this month, though nowhere near as good as Smith and Coulter were last month. Wolves' pitching remains 2nd best, with Daniel Perrin pitching a league leading 95.1 innings. Perrin had a 3.30 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with 17 strikeouts to 32 walks this month. It seems like their offense has slowed down to were they "should be", but will their hot start be enough for them to win it all? Preston North End have (slightly) closed the gap, now a game and a half behind Wolverhampton. All things considered, Preston have become the best rated team in the league. Their second place run is more a product of Wolves' bad run however, as Preston have been inconsistent. Nothing exemplifies this better than their month-best four-game winning streak early on, which was followed by a losing streak equally as long. The 3rd best offense continued raking in May, with 2B Daniel Barker (.365/.426/.538, 12 RBI, 0.9 WPA) and LF Connor Brown (.347/.436/.411, 17 RBI, 0.8 WPA) standing out with bat and glove. Their rotation is still 4th best, but struggled in May. Dane Maslen was their best pitcher this month, holding a 4.07 ERA and 1.66 WHIP after only 6 starts. Should their pitching improve, they have enough to get a third title! At the bottom of the table, Derby has escaped the drop zone. Now it's Grimsby, Sheffield United and Rotherham Town who need to improve to avoid playing the test matches. Rangers lead the charge, and are favorites for a second title. An amazing 16-4-7 May allowed them to leapfrog Clyde and St. Mirren on their way to the top. This includes a nine-game lossless streak to start off, with wins against Dundee and 3rd LRV, who they'll face once again to close the season. 3B Douglas Gilbert (.396/.459/.573, 17 RBI, 1.5 WPA) and CF Graeme Noyce (.394/.462/.510, 23 RBI, 1.4 WPA) absolutely raked this month, but so did the rest of the 2nd best lineup. 2B Scott Stewart was the only regular starter who posted below-average numbers this month. Their rotation is also the 2nd best in the league, with Ben Boyd leading. Boyd started 11 games this month, holding a 2.94 ERA and 1.18 WHIP, striking out 13 and walking 16. The Glasgow outfit are favorites to win it all by 4% according to experts. St. Mirren's bats seemed to have cooled off in the worst moment possible, leading to the club dropping first place. An 11-game lossless streak was snapped by Dundee May 30th. C Euan Hardie (.360/.410/.528, 20 RBI, 1.5 WPA) and 3B Daniel Morrison (.409/.449/.518, 13 RBI, 0.9 WPA) held their own, but the rest of starts need to be at their best to topple Rangers. Lefty Aaron Jones had a better month, with a 3.59 ERA, 1.45 WHIP with 19 K and 22 walks after 10 starts. St. Mirren face 3rd LRV and Celtic to end the season. Heart of Midlothian are the darkest of horses, but their hot form could carry them to another title. The Hearts were 14-3-3 since May 10th, with their offense going off. 1B Finlay Christie (.357/.383/.464, 26 RBI, 1.3 WPA) and 2B Aidan Walker (.361/.418/.464, 12 RBI, 1.2 WPA) had great months, and they'll hope to be able to carry their club to some silverware. On the mound, Ben Little was as consistent as you can be, holding a 2.98 ERA despite a 1.39 WHIP, with 18 Ks to 16 walks after 11 starts this month. Also, the Hearts face relegation contenders Renton and Dundee to end the season, so we could see a very exciting finish! June 1894
England - First Division ![]() 5 series remain, and Preston North End have overtaken Wolverhampton in the standings! A 15-9-3 month propels them to the top, with their offense being the motor. CF Harold Jones was the best hitter for them this month, slashing .389/.448/.584, and driving in 22 runs. Their pitching is still not the best, but having a huge run support did wonders for a rotation that included lefty Douggie Murray (2-3, 3.16 ERA, 1.68 WHIP this month). Preston will face Burton (H), Bolton (A), Derby (H), Blackburn (A) and West Bromwich (H) as the season winds down. Wolverhampton's inconsistent month (they were 13-12-2) sees them fall to second place. Their offense has slowed down greatly, and their pitching couldn't keep up. SS Aidan Jackson was great however, hitting for .453/.527/.579 but his 11 RBI this month show what a struggle it's been for the Wolves to get the offense going in June. On the mound, Daniel Perrin continues to be great through 11 starts this month! Perrin went 7-4, including 7 complete games and 2 shutouts. The 36 year old had a 3.26 ERA and 1.31 WHIP this month. Wolverhampton will face Aston Villa (A), Burton (H), Burnley (A), Bolton (H) and Manchester City (A) in the season finale. Everton have come close to a championship 3 times: by 1.5 games in 1888, and just a half game both in 1889 and 1893. This year they are just 1.5 games back once more, and their offense is firing on all cylinders. Could the likes of LF Julian Bryant, who hit .414/.444/.568 this month, and RHP Oscar Swan, who held a 3.20 ERA and 1.63 WHIP this month, take them to their first title? The Toffees will face Blackburn (H), West Brom (H), Sheffield United (A), Notts County (H) and Aston Villa (A) in their final series. At the other end of the table, Rotherham Town are mathematically unable to escape the test matches. Sheffield United and Grimsby will try to correct their course and avoid the drop at all costs. The Glasgow outfit were the second best offense in the league, with 3B Douglas Gilbert (.408/.449/.634, 35 RBI) participating in every game. The likes of LF Graeme Noyce (.353/.415/.444, 38 RBI) and 1B Fraser Buchan (.372/.429/.414, 18 RBI) also made positive contributions. Their rotation was the 2nd best in the league, with the club allowing just over 4 runs per game on average. RHP Benjamin Boyd (3.45 ERA, 1.39 WHIP) was their best pitcher, followed by RHP Joshua Hills (3.91 ERA, 1.54 WHIP) and RHP Andrew McPherson (4.56 ERA, 1.61 WHIP). They are talented enough and ambitious enough to go for the threepeat in 1895. Dundee were relegated to Division Two after a woeful season of just 18 wins. A three game skid at the end was the difference between them and Celtic. The Player of the Year award went to Rangers 3B Douglas Gilbert. The 30 year old Englishman earns his third award (1890, 1893, 1894. This year Dougie was 5th in OBP and WAR (3), 4th in hits (87) and stolen bases (43), 2nd in average, and led the league in doubles (20), triples (14), and slugging (.634). Scotland - Division Two ![]() After losing just 8 games and drawing 1 all season, Abercorn are Division Two champions and have earned promotion to Division One! St. Bernard's RF Logan Weir took home the Player of the Year trophy after having a .402/.484/.662 season with 14 doubles, 11 triples, 7 homers and 48 RBI. |

July 1894 - End of Season
England - First Division ![]() After a 9 game lossless streak to start the month, and just 4 losses overall, Wolverhampton lift their first First Division title! A powerful and speedy offense that scored the 3rd most runs, a revamped pitching staff with amazing gloves behind that allowed the 2nd fewest runs, and winning where it mattered propelled the West Midlands club to glory. Having been purchased from Sunderland before the season, CF Jamie Coulter proved he can cut it in the First Division, slashing .376/.423/.464 and adding 2.9 WPA. Known star and fellow outfielder Mason Price slashed .315/.415/.497, collecting 2.8 WPA. Together, they drove in 117 (22.8%) of the club's runs. On the mound, Daniel Perrin had an amazing season, finishing with 22 wins to just 9 losses. The 36 year old logged a 3.47 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 64 K and 105 BB in 34 starts. As usual, our season begins with the 1895 British Home Championship! England want to prevent another embarrassment after allowing Wales to take the cup home last year.
The Three Lions come in as favorites, as absolute stars like Douglas Gilbert, Thomas Barrett, Leon Taylor and Mason Price make up the heart of their order. 3x Pitcher of the Year Keith Coleman leads a rotation that also includes Peter Neilson and Darren Hutton. Peter Neilson won the 1893 Pitcher of the Year award and is set to make his BHC debut along with 23 year old SS Aidan Jackson and C Steve Clarke who takes over from Sean Bernerd. This tournament is, as usual, England's to lose. Scotland have a strong squad, with a lineup powered by the Lewises (Johnston and Morrison). Dylan Anderson takes the ace mantle from Benjamin Boyd, now 34, after leading the Scottish league in WAR two years in a row. Leith's Lewis Mitchell is also making his Scotland debut as the #2 in the rotation. Mitchell had the lowest walk ratio in Scotland in 1894: just 34 in 176 innings. 3B Craig Johnstone impressed everyone with a 1.090 OPS in the Scottish second division, which was good enough for manager Steven Thompson to call him up. The Tartan Army will certainly put up a fight, but they'll depend more on England slipping than their own talents to make it to the top. Wales surprised everyone by winning their first trophy last year after their offense went off and despite mediocre pitching. Should some results go their way again this year, they might be looking at an unlikely repeat. Their core from last year is intact, and it might be the last shot at a title for guys like Shane Pollard (36), Fergus Harper (31), Brian Algar (33) and Ashley Reader (32). LF Ronald Graham will make his debut, it will be the first we see of him after he was discovered by Sheffield United a couple months ago. Finally, Ireland will be looking at getting even more consistent. After not winning a single game in the first three editions of the BHC, they've now got a pair of 3rd place finishes under their belt. Their batting average has gone from .156 in 1889 to .314 last year, while their ERA dropped from 9.00 to 5.67 in the same period. Steve Lawrence could push their ERA even lower. The 35 year old workhorse will make his debut for Ireland after winning the Player of the Year award with a 1.77 ERA through 8 starts. Nothing is really expect of the Irish squad, but they have been improving year after year. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wales vs Ireland The tournament opener is won by the Irish squad, after scoring runs in each of the first 4 innings, with a final score of 6-3. 3B Fionn Bailey had 3 hits, including a 2 run homer and an RBI triple (total, 4 RBI), to earn PotG honors. RF Ronald Graham tallies 2 runs with a single in the 8th to give Wales a 6-4 win on day 2. Douggie Murray is named Player of the Game after earning just 2 runs in a complete game. His 3 strikeouts this game take him to 75 career BHC Ks, overtaking Everton Taylor's 73. Maolruanaí Clark shuts out the Dragons on just 3 hits, which worked wonders because the offense could only muster up 3 runs. Ireland takes the series 2-1! Scotland vs England Keith Coleman recovered nicely from a 4 run first inning and held the Scots scoreless while the offense did their job for a 9-4 English win on Opening Day. Another 9-4 game goes England's way on day 2, and DH Leon Taylor was the highlight. Taylor went 4-4 with a double and 2 RBI. Also notably, Mo Humphries had a pair of triples. A 7th inning rally powered by Ian Wallis and Lewis Johnston pushes Scotland past England with a final score of 5-3. Benjamin Boyd is named player of the game due to his 3 run, complete game effort. Still, England takes the opening series. England and Ireland take an early lead, with Wales and Scotland doing the chasing going into the second series. Ireland vs Scotland Scotland proves why they're the better team with a 14-2 dismantling of Ireland. C Aidan Weir had a record-setting game hitting 9th: 5-5, 2 3B, 2 RBI, 5 R. That means new records for hits and runs scored in a game! The Scots continue their domination of Ireland with an 11-1 game on day 2. This time 1B Kai Reid took home the award after a 4-5 night with a double, a triple and a pair of RBI. Maolruanaí Clark continues his great run in this BHC with a 1-run masterpiece on 121 pitches, just enough for Ireland to go 2-1 up on Scotland in Game 3. Still, Scotland takes the series 2-1. Wales vs England Just a couple hours later, Gilbert ties the record after going 5-7 in a 19-2 win for England. Keith Coleman takes home the PotG award after allowing just 2 runs on 4 hits in a complete game. Game 2 was a close affair, with Leon Taylor's RBI double in the 7th being the difference maker in a 4-3 game that went England's way. Peter Neilson is named player of the game despite allowing 3 runs on 10 hits. The Three Lions sweep the Dragons with an 18-7 game to close things out. Mason Price with a 4-5 game, 2 2B and 2 RBI takes home the PotG. England cement themselves into first place, with Scotland and Ireland a sweep away from a title. Wales are mathematically out of the race. Scotland vs Wales Scotland claw back in the 9th for a 6-6 tie in game 1. Kai Reid is on a tear, hitting .593/.645/.778 this Championship, adding a 3-4 game with 3 RBI and another MVP performance. Another late offensive performance gives Scotland a 6-3 win where Lewis Morrison with 3 RBI on 3 hits was the star. Yet another 6-6 tie culminates both Scotland and Wales' disappointing campaigns. England vs Ireland England secure their 6th trophy in an absolutely historic 14-3 win over Ireland! Keith Coleman allows 3 runs on 5 hits for his 15th all-time win, overtaking Christopher Clark on the BHC wins leaderboard. Douglas Gilbert also broke a record, with his 18th (and later 19th) hit making him the single season record holder in this category. England leave no doubt as to who the best team is this year and blank Ireland 8-0 behind Peter Neilson. At half gas, England complete the sweep and end the season 8-1 for the first time in history. The only other 1-loss season was in their 1892 title winning campaign, which ended 7-1-1. ![]() England win their 6th British Home Championship!
