Free agents in historical mode are split between 2 menus
Free agents in historical mode are split between [Team] -> Free Agent Centre and NHL -> Transactions -> Free Agents pages. Majority end up in the latter, which is not the case in regular mode.

Separately, if you navigate [Team] -> Free Agent Centre, then go to NHL -> Transactions -> Free Agents, and hit back, the list of free agents remains from the previous page.
(free agency can get preeeetty confusing) |

in the free agent center view I believe you have to click on filter and change one of the options, I can't remember which at the moment (something to do with contracted/non contracted maybe), to see the regular list. I don't know why the default filter in history mode is that way but it is.

Bumping to ask if there's any plan for this to be looked into. It's still a problem in FHM11 and my biggest gripe with historical mode :/

There should also be some way to sort them as per the monthly scouting report, so you can see who is the best available.
If you asked your scouts 'Who are the best current free agents?' , you don't expect them to say 'Sorry but you'll have to wait for our report at the end of the month'..... |

Unless I'm misunderstanding the question here - I believe the default 'Free Agent Centre' starts with just UFA's viewable, doesn't it? Could that be explaining the difference?

What do you mean by "UFA's viewable"? There are UFAs in NHL -> Transactions -> Free Agents that don't appear in [Team] -> Free Agent Centre and vice-versa. For example, I just started a 2005 save and on July 1 2006 Marian Hossa only appeared under NHL -> Transactions -> Free Agents menu. This wouldn't happen in standard mode.

This is intentional. In historical, unlike standard games, the free agent centre view includes players who can be immediately signed away from their current team. That's necessary because the generic minor/European leagues in historical have nearly-unlimited capacity and will absorb virtually all unsigned players in the game, leaving only a very small number of completely unsigned players. That would make the screen mostly useless, so we changed the default filter for it to show more players that can be signed right away,

My [Team] free agent center is populated with guys contracted to other teams in my league. (NHL) There is no signing them at all. I am on November 12th. |

Upload that save, please, it shouldn't be showing guys in your own league.
