OK let's try this again: Top 10 Prospects

Well that season with Sapporo crashed, and too bad for me because I was doing pretty well and I had a good farm system...oh well.

I'm starting again, this time with a minor-market United States leauge starting in the year 1946. I'm the Omaha Royals and my farm system sucks.

3 Thomas Collman 18 1B Average Average Brilliant C C A .211 1 15
6 Bill Jan 18 CF Fair Good Good C D A .221 2 6
7 Thomas Goldstein 23 3B Fair Average Good C B A .220 2 10
8 David Ruggles 19 2B Average Fair Average C B A .185 0 12
10 Dennis Reveles 24 SS Average Fair Average C C A .250 0 9

Pitchers

# Name Age Role Stuff Movement Control Level Rec ERA IP HA BB K
1 Jayson Brown 19 SP Good Good Average A 1-3 4.08 35.1 38 11 41
2 Ronald Johnson 21 SP Good Good Average A 2-2 2.72 36.1 35 5 30
4 Luis Palacios 18 SP Average Good Good A 1-2 6.66 24.1 34 4 26
5 Robert Steller 18 SP Average Average Good A 0-3 6.30 30.0 36 11 23
9 Robert Loranger 22 MR Good Good Good A 0-1 3.09 11.2 12 7 5

These statistics are after one month of play. As you can see, I have some pretty trashy hitting prospects which kind of hurts because I drafted towards pitching in the initial draft and tried to get some good hitting prospects in the later rounds. Ronald Johnson and Jayson Brown are about the only bright prospects I have right now, I wouldn't consider Loranger a big deal because he's just a middle reliever.

Stay tuned, I'll update the list and keep track of the guys that were on it etc etc. I'm mostly doing this to see how indicative this list actually is.

My team took a huge blow when 27 year old lefty Joseph Yang had a career ending injury. He was my first overall pick in the initial draft so it's pretty awful. We were doing allright before that happend now we're in last place, 9 games behind the Oklahoma City Chiefs and it doesn't look like it's going to get any better.

#10 SS Dennis Reveles was coming along nicely until his range dropped to D at both SS and 3B. I've sinced changed Releves to 3b. Now my #10 prospect is RF Walter Fisher.

10 Walter Fisher 17 RF Fair Average Good D C A .318 9 26

All I can say is wow, but there's a long time between now and when he's ready for the majors since he's only 17. I like the fact that he has good talent in plate discipline.

TRADE DEADLINE REPORT!

Before I get to my trade deadline moves, and there were a lot of them I'll just mention a few things that happened to my prospects:
  • CF Bill Jan improved his bat contol and his plate discipline, good work!
  • Traded MR Alamos to Little Rock for C Laguna and two other minor leaugers. Laguna becomes my 7th best prospect with Goldstein going down to 8 and Ruggles to 9.
  • Traded SS Andrew King, 3b Goldstein, and a minor leauger to New Haven fpr SS Hogans, RF Mass and MR Tapp. Mass becomes the # 7 prospect with Laguna going down to #8. King was one of my better players, he had nice stroke and good power but Hogans had all of that and he was 5 years younger (26). Only problem was that he was up for free agency, and I proposed a few deals to him and he rejected all of them and I had no chance to sign the bastard. Oh well, I got Mass out of it.

I went nuts on the trading deadline because I was 41-63 and 20 games behind the Oklahoma City Chiefs. The Royals had the worst record in baseball so something obviously wan't working. I decided to go with a youth movement since my farm system was #16th in the leauge.

Here are the trades:
  • Traded SS Hogans, the bastard, and 1b Collman, one of the top 10 prospects, to Washington for C Edward Clark, 1b John Wexler, SS Angel Puga, SP Roger Ricardo, and 3b Dustin Hedges. What a blockbuster. I gave up Hogans, who refused to sign with me and underwhelming prospect Collman for Clark, a 25 year old catcher who already plays in the majors, who has a good stroke and fantastic defense and Wexler a five star prospect at 1b and in AAA already. The other kids I got are all 3 blue stars or better and Puga is probably going to take over at SS soon since he's already playing at AAA. This was a complete no-brainer trade. Once I realized I could get Clark and Wexler for Hogans and Collman I just kept adding people.
  • Traded SP Arnold Arnwine and SS Juan Guillaume to New Orleans for SP Thomas Markham. They got jacked. Arnwine was useless, he was a 2 1/2 gold star vet that I didn't need and Guillaume was such a bitter dissappointment after I drafted him in the 12th round of the initial draft (he batted .196 with 4 HR screw him) I ended up with a four star pitching prospect. SWEET!
  • Traded 3b Carlos Val to Long Island for 2b Elijah Phillips. I think this was a fair trade, Val had a good start and was batting .300 through the month of June, he kind of tailed off, but he's still a quality hitter. Thing is he was up for free agency, and I really didn't want to keep my vets around considering my record. Phillips is one of the better 2b prospects with 3 1/2 blue stars.
  • Traded MR Michael Kummer, C Gary Crow, and SS Roger Gobert to Nashua for RF Tobias Salazar and LF Nicholas Espinoza. Neither of the prospects I got are world beaters, Salazar is a three star prospect and Espenoza is a two star guy, but the losers I gave up had a combined value of 0 as far as I'm concerned. Crow couldn't even bat over .175.
  • Traded MP Roger Johnson to Oklahoma City for SP Leonard Weisz. Another instance of giving up a decent reliever for an excellent prospect...teams in the pennant hunt are so desperate haha. Thing is though, Weisz is out for the season with a torn ligament in his elbow so who knows what his real value is. I know what Johnson's real value was, 0.
  • Traded MR Alfredo Barras to Washington for MR Richard Cleek. Barras is a decent reliever and Cleek is a decent reliever prospect. This trade was pretty even, although Barras was on my AAA team and I wasn't using him.
  • Traded RF Thomas Shand to El Paso for SP Michael Phelps. I gave up a utility outfielder who was having a good season for a promising pitcher in AA.

So now the top ten list looks like this:
Batters

# Name Age Pos Contact Power Eye/Discipline Speed Range Level AVG HR RBI
1 John Wexler 22 1B Good Good Good C B AAA .258 10 44
5 Bill Jan 18 CF Average Good Brilliant C D A .227 7 42
8 Elijah Phillips 18 2B Good Fair Good C B A .228 6 46
9 Dustin Hedges 21 3B Good Fair Good D C AAA .246 1 23

Pitchers

# Name Age Role Stuff Movement Control Level Rec ERA IP HA BB K
2 Jayson Brown 19 SP Good Good Average A 5-9 5.14 124.1 152 54 108
3 Thomas Markham 19 SP Good Good Average A 1-13 5.58 117.2 153 52 60
4 Ronald Johnson 21 SP Good Good Average A 8-8 2.94 144.0 146 45 108
6 Leonard Weisz 21 SP Average Average Brilliant DL
7 Michael Phelps 21 SP Good Good Good AA 5-10 5.32 115.0 136 23 72
10 Luis Palacios 19 SP Average Good Good DL

Boy what a difference! I picked up Wexler, Phillips, Hedges, Markham, Weisz, and Phelps in trade and I went from the 16th best farm system to the 6th. Oh boy just wait for the amateur draft!

I don't know if anyone cares, but I could also post what my current major leauge team looks like...

Well I ended up in last place with the worst record in all of baseball but at the trade deadline I was at .380 and when I finished I was at .444 so I looked a little better. Unfortunately, I lost over two million dollars and I was forced to cut payroll even more.

Before I get to my offseason fun here's some news and notes:
  • 3b Dustin Hedges impoved his plate discipline.
  • Ronald Johnson's duration goes up to B.

I had quite a few offseason trades to free up some cash to make some signings and get prospects.
  • Traded 1b David McKernan to Wichita for SP Ramon Davila, 2b Miguel Lazpita, SP Darrin Strayhorn, and two minor leaugers. Davila is the #3 overall prospect in the minors so I feel like I really got him for a song. McKernan was good, but I really didn't need him since he was a 6 million dollar playuer and up for free agency in '48. Lazpita and Strayhorn merely shore up my weaknesses at 2b and SP.
  • Traded CL Scott Grimmer and SP Calven Rentaria to Buffalo for CL Jason Pittman and SS Jeffry Stills. Grimmer was supposedly a five star vet closer but he was anything but impressive during his year in Omaha. Pittman, however is a five star prospect who's majors ready. Closers are made, not born so I figure, what the hell.
  • Traded SP Jose Guido to San Antonio for SP Woodrow Scherer and a minor leauger. This was a cash purge, nothing more nothing less.

My free agent class was a bit of a bust. I went after a few quality guys and ended up with retreads. I got a first baseman with otherworldly OBP but low contact skills and my third baseman is a former catcher also with excellent OBP. Well I guess I kept my payroll down, maybe I'll improve this year and make some cash to go after big name free agents next year.

In the draft I picked first overall and got a fantastic SS in Michael "Specs" Smith. He's 22 and almost ready for the majors. Only problem is that he's not very disciplined at the plate which kind of hurts him in my system. I also ended up with a nice SP in Jorge Curz. Thing is, after round four I let the computer do the drafting and i got six middle relievers. THANKS COMP. Never again.

So now the top ten list looks like this:
Batters

# Name Age Pos Contact Power Eye/Discipline Speed Range Level AVG HR RBI
2 Michael Smith 21 SS Good Brilliant Good B A AA .000 0 0
3 John Wexler 22 1B Good Good Good C B AAA .000 0 0
9 Bill Jan 19 CF Average Good Brilliant C D A .000 0 0

Pitchers

# Name Age Role Stuff Movement Control Level Rec ERA IP HA BB K
1 Ramon Davila 22 SP Brilliant Brilliant Brilliant AAA 0-0 0.00 0.0 0 0 0
4 Jason Pittman 24 CL Brilliant Brilliant Brilliant Majors 0-0 0.00 0.0 0 0 0
5 Jayson Brown 19 SP Good Good Average A 0-0 0.00 0.0 0 0 0
6 Ronald Johnson 22 SP Good Good Average AA 0-0 0.00 0.0 0 0 0
7 Jorge Cruz 19 SP Good Brilliant Good A 0-0 0.00 0.0 0 0 0
8 Thomas Markham 19 SP Good Good Average A 0-0 0.00 0.0 0 0 0
10 Leonard Weisz 21 SP Average Average Brilliant A 0-0 0.00 0.0 0 0 0

Should I mention that I have the best minor leauge system in the majors? Why yes, I should.

Wow, Davila looks to be the future of your team. How is Davila doing in the Majors?
