Is there a glitch in Is free agent compensation awarding

I'm noticing a handful of players whose last year was voided by their former team w contract buyout. But then the former team is awarded compensation bc they become comp eligible. this doesn't make any sense and these are players who are not rated very well and performed terrible. Is this a glitch or is there a reason for this

Just to elaborate, I'm not talking about all compensation players , but there is a handful of minor league caliber or bench caliber players that I was shocked to find them listed as compensation eligible. Then when I look at their history, every single time it was from a team who voided their final contract year
