2025 Yankees: Maybe it is our year?

Well, 2024 is ending. The season by me was decent. No World series title but represented the American League. I would have liked them to have made it more of a series and not just 5 games and out.

What is needed to return and then win it.

First the rotation as it sits today looks really strong with Cole, Fried, Rodon, Gil, Schmidt. Right now that is a fine rotation. The back of the bullpen is also looking good with Weaver and Williams.

Offense they do not look good at all. Soto's lose hurts, but he was one player. I want Luis Arraez for 1st base. He just hits and does not strike out often. Next, we need Bellinger and Hoerner for LF and 2B. I want more contact and please stop with the low batting average, high strike out homerun hitters. Who am I kidding we will get guys like Santander and Alonso. Dominguez getting a full year to play center should help.

We need at least 2 players that make contact and can hit for average. We will get eliminated in the playoffs if we just add guys that hit the long ball because we go cold and lose games 2-1.

Also, we have not overachieved in a year since 2017. It would be nice to beat a team that is equal or even better than us once in a while.

Might just be me but it seems wierd to say this might be the Yankees year when it use to be every year was the Yankees year.

Mind you, this was before the union ran the steel mills out of business.

I don't think their roster construction is the problem, it's the lack of coaching from player management to in-game management to preparation. Aaron Boone and his staff seem very hands-off when it comes to improving the teams' weaknesses via whatever means necessary (more deliberate preparations, etc.).

That goes back WAY before Bill James. 1950-ish, at least. Jimmy Cannon, perhaps?

Operative word is "use" to be. That has not been the case for a bit. Outside of 2017, the Yankees have not beat a team that has been better than them or arguably on the same level.

2018: Red Sox
2019 :Astros
2020: Rays
2021: Red Sox
2022: Astros
2024: Dodgers- The only team on this list that I think talent wise was on the same level.

The 2025 Yankees are still being assembled and will need more offensive punch to compete. I am not sure if Arenado is going to be that difference maker or not. The Yankees regardless will have to beat some other team more likely on their same level or slightly better to win a championship.

It’ll probably take 50 years of the Yankees being bad before that stigma goes away.

Well, we are a month away from spring training and not sure the Yankees have many more moves to make. I hope they have more moves though.

As constructed, I am NOT confident they are better than last year. You could make a case regardless of the rotation being better name wise that the results could be similar. I expect the bullpen to be better with a legit closer in Williams. The lineup not so sure as we lost not only Soto, but Torres that was offensively pretty good. I don't see Bellinger, Goldschmidt and Dominguez as being enough at this time. Can't have DJ, Carbera or Peraza as the regular infielders. I would love to have Luis Arraez, but it does not appear the Yankees share that interest or are willing to make that deal. They are not the Yankees of old and they have a clear budget they want to stay at.

I think it is disappointing because they could easily run into trouble as is. While they are the current favorites in the AL, I could see a team surpassing them if they do not get stellar health and performance. It might by time to think about trading a Schmidt or Gil to get better and maybe keep Stromen in the 5th starter spot.
