Historical - 2006 Montreal/Washington

I have looked for information on this but can't find the exact answer, so apologies if it is out there and I am just missing it.

I have tested a game setup with historical transactions and in 2006, midway through the season, the Montreal Expos have 8 players and are 3-84 on the year. Trying to make sure I can start a game in early 2000's and go from there through present day with accurate transactions, managing each game. How do you handle this best--I'm guessing it has to do with moving the Expos to Washington manually and somehow recoding the team in that offseason.

A typical historical OOTP game shouldn't include the Montreal Expos in 2006. Without more information I can only guess, but I'm thinking you are trying to keep the Expos in Montreal by disabling Automatically Expand League (which should really be re-named Historically Evolve League), and then along with renaming the Washington Nationals to Montreal Expos, you also changed the Historical Franchise ID.

What I'm getting at is that as long as you have as the Hist Franchise ID "WSN" then historical transactions should continue to move players to the Expos/Nationals franchise, even if the team is named Montreal Expos... IOW, beginning in 2005 the connection for historical transactions is where WSN is on the player record and the team record. If there is no WSN franchise ID on a team record, then the players who are supposed to go to Washington (or in your case, Montreal), have nowhere to go and become free agents. And so in your case those 8 remaining players are the (presumably) 8 guys who were with Montreal in 2004 and remained with the team through at least 2006...

Again, hard to say without knowing more about your settings, but that's what I'm thinking...

The game should move the Expos to Washington automatically in a historical sim unless you have changed the TEAM.CSV and renamed the Nationals back to the Expos in that file. Otherwise the TEAM.CSV should update in the off-season and move teams automatically.

To be honest you should never disable "Automatically Expand League" if you don't want to open the door to unwanted problems... obviously this is if you play with real transaction if you don't I don't see any possible problem.

This is exactly what happened when I began my simulation in the 19th century... some teams doesn't exist in the game file so some new players go nowhere because no teams with the historical id of the team they played with exist the first day of the off-season.

Okay, I think you all provided exactly what I needed. I did uncheck the box for expand league (good point that it should probably be evolve rather than expand). I did not want to expand, but obviously do want the Expos to become the Nats. I'll run another test with that setup. Thank you!
