What is the difference between playmaker and setup man?
I've wondered for a while, and have tried to test them both but can't come up with a discernable difference. they both seem to have a very similar role info too? that mixes me up even more.

I asked this on the subreddit a couple of years back and Jeff gave a good response but for the life of me I cannot find that thread now.
I'd originally asked if they were position specific - ie. 'Setup Man' is pure winger because he doesn't require the same faceoff skill as 'Playmaker'....Jeff said that they were not position specific and could be either. From my memory the description of the difference between the two was that a 'Playmaker' is someone who is more general in his playmaking and will look to spread the puck around to players in good positions as where as a 'Setup man' is someone who will look to feed a potent goal scoring player on the same line. I hope I've remembered this correctly because that's how I've been using the roles since that response and it's been pretty good for me. |
