Intro
The Chicago White Sox are having a historically bad season in the 2024 MLB Season. They’ve got a 22-61 in the first half, the worst in franchise history, and are on track to have one of, if not the worst, records in the entirety of the MLB. What makes it even worse is that as recently as 2021, they were on the top step of their division and fighting it out in the ALDS. They’d made it to back to back playoffs after an 11-year streak of missing out.
I’m giving myself 5 years to rebuild the White Sox, and return them to the promised land. I have 3 goals. 1. Get back to the playoffs. 2. Maintain a top 10 farm system. 3. Get attendance back to record numbers. This isn’t gonna be easy, so let’s get cracking. At first glance, this team has some bright spots. Garrett Crochet leads the rotation with his dominating 3-pitch arsenal, and rangy centre fielder Luis Robert Jr. is the star man in the lineup. There are a couple of quality prospects too: Colson Montgomery has the potential to be a perennial all-star at second base, and Edgar Quero has some great tools for our starting catcher. But then once we get through those guys… uhhh. Not much to work with. We’re using the Live Start game mode (back in late June), so there isn’t much time to make meaningful changes to the lineup. Let’s get up to the draft and see how we’re performing before we do anything rash. Last edited by Dododude; 10-27-2024 at 02:18 PM. |

2024 Draft
Okay so we’re at draft day, and a couple of things have happened. First off I got a bit of a scare in my inbox when I was told my Assistant GM decided to boot our backup catcher off the squad, but with a negative 1.3 WAR on the year, and only an above average defence and captain personality to keep him here, I didn’t need to give it much thought. Oh, and now is probably a good time to mention that I’m not controlling the team. It’s up to the staff to make the most of the players I give them. I've locked the major prospects in to the teams and positions I want them in though.
Anyway, the other thing that happened is we actually went .500 for the 12 games leading up to the draft. We still suck, but this might help us avoid that historic losing season. We’re almost at .300 now on the year, so let’s hope we can get our hands on some decent players in the draft. We pick 5th, and I’m really hoping a college player drops to us. With the OSA Mock Draft putting Charlie Condon down in 4th, I was hoping for a little magic, but sadly it wasn’t to be. He goes pick number 1 to the Guardians, and he’s probably going to be a monster. Oh well, let’s see what happens for Chicago. |
