ELI5: Long Time OOTPer. Completely Lost With Tournaments

My career is as a UX Designer, and I gotta say, trying to figure out PT tournaments, I think they need one.

Is there a beginner’s guide somewhere?

I don’t know which tournaments to sign up for, why half my cards (even if the type mentioned in the tournament) aren’t available, why I can’t keep a roster I can reuse (or maybe I can and don’t know where?), or how the mechanics of a tournament even work.

It is truly maddening.

Can anyone help an (apparently) old man out? I want to try these out (I think), but it is just all nonsense to me.

There is a learning curve to tourneys. There is a lot to type to answer your questions. I reluctantly joined twitch earlier this year and have learned a lot.

My recommendation is to view some twitch streams. Some will be specific to tourneys and you could just watch or you can ask questions.

I recommend live quick tournaments to get started. Decide if you want to play iron, bronze, or silver. Depends on how many live cards you have, I guess. It's very easy once you get used to it. You only have to create the team once and you can skip to step 14 for each additional entry.

1) from the main page, click on "show tournaments"
2) at the top click on "roster builder" which is just below the words "All Tournaments".
3) click "create new roster"
4) click on "No restrictions. Open"
5) from this list choose your tournament such as "bronze or lower, only live cards"
6) give your roster a name and press "save roster"
7) click "set roster"
8) Under the main menu, click "manage cards"
9) change your filters as needed to show all the available cards you own for your chosen tournament and start activating the cards you want on your team.
10) after selecting your team click "return to roster builder page"
11) you will get a warning to save your team!
12) upload your team to the server
13) return to main screen
14) filter for Quick tournaments in the type filter. And also in the roster restriction filter choose "live cards only"
15) there will be a choice of 4 tournaments. Click "sign up" for the one you built your team for
16) under the roster column, be sure to load your roster and make sure you see whatever you named your team.
17) return to the main page and you should see the tournament you entered, with the button "set roster". It is not necessary to go any further, but you can click on this to make sure your roster is properly loaded.
