Importing An Era's Teams Best Players

Hi,

I would love to create a league with each organization's best players from a certain era. I am looking at each team's best players from 1982-1986, my sweet spot of APBA playing in my youth! I would fill each roster with 30 players (thinking 15/15), no trades or roster moves, with a player's best single season with that team (ie Dale Murphy - Atlanta 1983) during that time frame. I'm also thinking players may end up on two different rosters (Mike Easler - Pittsburgh from 1982, Boston from 1984). One season play through, 162 games etc.

Is there an easy way to import the selected players for each roster without building each 26 team's roster, importing the 840 players or whatever one by one?

I'd like to manage TWO teams - one AL and one NL. If I am able to build this, do you think I back it up once it is all set up and then do a season managing the AL team and then another doing the NL?

Thanks for your help and any thoughts, feedback!

Spend some time on baseball-reference and choose the 30 players and the respective year for each player for each of the teams you want.

Download the .txt file I have attached. On BBR, note the code that the player's html website address ends with - see how that matches the import code I put on the txt file? For each player you want, list that code, then a comma, then the year, then a comma, and then the team abbreviation. My example is BOS for Boston so check all the teams to get their code.

Fill out the .txt file to meet your needs following the example I gave in the file. Write over my examples - they are only serving as examples.

Now, start a historical game, minors off, in the year you want (I assume mid-80's). From the League Setting page, release everyone to free agency and then delete all free agents. Go to the player list and ensure all the player in the game are gone. Then, go to the free agent screen. You should be in commish mode already so go to the player import option from the dropdown on the far right. Select the historical.database.odb. From the pop-up where you import individual players, check all the settings about setting ratings and the adjust/weakens you want. Then, do you see the "OR select text file containing numerous entries"? That is how to use the txt file you filled out. Click to select the file and navigate to it. Then import.

If you get stuck, say where in the process and someone can help.

THANK YOU!! Seems pretty straight forward in you instructions. I have been on BBR choosing the rosters and I will match up your codes with BBR's and then do the import. Thank you again. I'll report back!

Cool. Make sure for the team code you look to OOTP under the team settings not BBR. I can’t recall but it is prob CAL you want (given the year you will likely run the game in) and not the OOTP parent ID which is probably LAA. If you left team code off, the txt file will make them free agents upon import.

The list of every player's import ID can be found in the Master.csv in the /stats folder.
