Pitching Staff instead of Rotation/Bullpen for early years
Please give us the option to eliminate rotations and bullpens for early play. One thing that sticks out like a sore thumb when playing 1901-1940 or so, is the number of pitchers one ends up with making 20+ appearances without starting a game.
I'm currently playing 1904. I fast simmed 1901-1903 before starting 1904. I have the game set to 5 man rotations, always start the highest rested. I have it set to allow starters to be used in relief. I have the bullpen set to 1. I'm actually really liking the results, but I think it could be much better if I had the option to use 6 or maybe even 7 pitchers (rotation) and 0 pitchers in the bullpen.
Problem right now is, if you set the game to use 6 starters(the max), always start the highest rested, the game is going to use the 6 pitchers as starters, skipping the 6th when fatigue allows. This won't work for early baseball. Walter Johnson ending up with 28 starts is not realistic. Problem is, setting the game to a 4 man rotation with 2 or 3 relief pitchers is probably even more unrealistic. Wilson St. Vrain pitching 45 games in relief just doesn't cut it.
Would love the option to eliminate the bullpen altogether. Set rotation(rotation in name only) to 5 or 6(or 7 if available), but also be able to tell game that I want the AI to use the top 4 pitchers on a primary basis with the remaining 2 or 3 only used to start games when fatigue dictates. When one gets to the 1920/30's it could be changed to use the top 5 primarily, with it working just like 5 man rotation, always start the highest rested does now.
Would love anything that does away with pitchers being used bullpen only pitchers.
