You figured it out. I guess my 12 team, one subleague plan starting in 1947 is out the window.

I am sticking with my current 1901-2023 recalc + development league. Rain King has a good suggestion of recalculating ratings mid season.
I don't like starting my league as a random league because I don't like having a few stars (like Mays or T. Williams) in that era coming in as older players. I did try 1901-2000 how I normally start my leagues but it didn't work as I had hoped. I started historical league in 1895 like I normally do, then change lt to random with min-max years 1896-1900, 20 rounds rookie draft. RAH ON. Missed seasons off. This way I get all players that played 1895 to 1901 in the game. Interesting those players (H. Wagner, C. Mathewson, etc.) come in (and have always this version) with their retirement age as their real retirement age (not their 1901 age). Then in 1896 I change Random Min-Max to 1901-2000 (normally I changed it to1901-2023). Using 1901-2000, players that played in 2000 will unfortunately use their real life age in 2000 as their retirement age in my game, not their IRL retirement age.. So no benefit of using 1901-2000. Will stick with 1901-2023. Recalc + development.

To start I'm using 10 round drafts with the game creating enough players for 11 rounds. During all the test trying to get this work, it was easy to see that a lot more players retire each year when using RAH. I want to be able to use high short term, low long term injuries. Would love to use normal long term, but I just don't think teams will ever have adequate roster depth to do so, unless I go with an even bigger draft. I'm actually using the reserve clause to start out. Figure since I have to use so many teams, less player movement will make it easier to get to know the teams. The old players not retiring and sitting on the roster, but never playing problem won't be an issue with RAH on. Last edited by David Watts; 09-22-2024 at 02:20 PM. |

Got a retire according to history question. Does the game ever retire players prior to their actual retirement age if they're stinking up the joint, or sitting on the reserve roster with no hope of ever getting promoted?

I can't answer that specifically, but I have seen posts where someone retired early due to a career ending injury.

Still can't believe Reed discovered the way to use a maximum year and still have players play past the max year and be recalc'd as well. I would wash his car for a year if he lived close by.

Absent an injury, they should keep playing. So, Minnie Minoso in RAH ought to stick around for example. This is one of the ways we have found misaligned stat lines. A player that should RAH in 1930 ends up retiring in 1984 because some other John Smith's stat line got tied to him. It's rare for these kinds of misaligned stat lines to be found (but not impossible) in an MLB'er only game but they show up more often in a real minors "on" game.

It's kind of funny, when I was setting up leagues trying to figure things out, the league I started right before the one I'm playing now, I had a 22 year old Babe Ruth. Sadly I made one mistake that made the league unplayable. The league I'm actually playing features a 37/38 year old Ruth. Oh well.

Got another silly question. Whenever I see folks talk about doing replays, I often see the recommendation to turn off scouting and coaching. If one is playing with no development, what can having coaching on effect? Just curious.

But mainly, if coaching is on and dev is off, the strat of the coaches are still in play and that's probably why they have coaches turned off. |

I tend to roll with it too. But you can delete him and import in a younger version in his stead or add him to the next year draft etc.
