Thinking of starting a dynasty
Now that I am getting DSL I decided to to start a dynasty and do some reporting on it. I lost my old password for the message board so I just re-registered. I'm not sure if I should do fictional or real players. Do you guys like to read about real players or fictional players more? I'm thinking of sticking with the 1980's era and settings. I'd like to have home runs be down a bit fromwhere they are now. No one hit 50 home runs in the 1980's, I want it to still be special when a player gets close to that amount. I remember when Dawson and McGwire hit 49 and everyone was hoping to see someone hit 50. That's the kind of excitiement I like. Now it is just expected that at least one player in each league will hit 50.
So Real or fictional players? real or fictional teams? |

How about a dynasty beginning with the expansion Blue Jays or Mariners in '77.

I enjoy reading about Historical players in Fictional situations....meaning not just a simple recap of History thread.
Here are a couple ideas I've had that may make good dynasties: * 1901 - present. All players join their original teams. No trades at all. See which franchise has the best homegrown talent. You'd have to figure out something with expansion however. * 1901 - present. Modern settings from Day 1. No Deadball era * 1901 - present. Deadball settings from Day 1. * Babe Ruth is traded from the 1920 Red Sox to the expansion 1993 Colorado Rockies. * An imaginary career of Roy "The Natural" Hobbs. He joins the actual Majors sometime in the teens. Age 20. Brilliant in all Talents. All other players are historical. See how he develops vs. the Babe. |

Wheele8, I love the Blue Jays or Mariners idea!!! That is great because it is somewhat recent and will take me into 1980's baseball which is my favorite era.
Metsgeek, I like the idea of 1901 and on using modern settings. Imagine if Babe Ruth would have a challenge for the home run title from someone else in the league? Great idea! I am going to do one of these two ideas. Thanks guys!

My U.S. Baseball Alliance is a fictional league using both entirely made up players and characters from baseball movies, books, etc. I've had a blast with it here. I have real players as managers, GMs. If you decided to use it, my file is up for download at rosterdevelopmentgroup.com.

Hi I was thinking of doing the same thing sometime. Expansion for the Jays. Just wondering though. I tried searching for how to do expansion in the FAQ but only found info for post 2002. Are there any threads with information for historical leagues? thanks

I used the information found here in this thread! It was easy to follow and I got my league set up just perfectly.
It was terrific because the league format was all set up with the teams in the right divisions and the players on the correct teams! I thought I'd still have to go through and format the divisions or something. I'm all set to guide the Jay to greatness!! |
